I GOT THIS HUNT FOR A CORSICAN RAM OFF HUNTING NET AUCTION LAST FEB. PAID A LITTLE LESS THAN LISTED PRICE . WHICH WAS FINE BY ME , I WANTED THE MOUNT ,THE HUNT WAS NOT MY CUP OF TEA IT IS A LARGE RANCH BUT IT IS STILL FENCED . BUT THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS POST. ANYWAY I WENT TOOK A RAM AND RON AND I CAME TO AGREEMENT ON PRICE FOR THE MOUNT AND AT THE TIME HE SAID HE WOULD FIX THE BROKEN TIP ON RIGHT HORN. SO HE QUOTED PRICE AND 2 TO 3 MONTH TURN AROUND TIME FOR THE MOUNT , I AGREED AND PAID HIM IN FULL ON THE SPOT HE WAS TO LET ME KNOW BEFORE SHIPPNG HOW MUCH SHIPPING WAS GOING TO BE AND I WAS TO SEND HIM CHECK FOR SHIPPING. WELL 4 MONTHS LATER I HAD NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM HIM SO I EMAILED ASKING FOR STATUS REPLY WAS JUST GOT THE HIDE BACK FROM TANNER AND WOULD BE DONE IN 60 DAYS OR SO ABOUT 75 TO 80 DAYS LATER HAD NOT HEARD ANYTHING EMAILED AGAIN FOR STATUS REPLY CAME MOUNT IS DONE HAVE TO FIX HORN BUSY WITH HUNTING SEASON STARTING WOULD GET IT OUT IN 60 DAYS OR SO 90 DAYS HEARD NOTHING SENT HARSHER EMAIL REPLY CAME THAT I WAS BEING UNREASONABLE AND WOULD GET IT OUT IN 2 WEEKS OR SO 3 DAYS LATER THE MOUNT SHOWED UP SHIPPED COLLECT AND THE HORN WAS NOT FIXED . EMAILED HIM AND HIS REPLY WAS I DID NOT PAY FOR THE HORN TO BE FIXED BUT IF I MAILED IT BACK TO HIM HE WOULD FIX IT FOR 25 TO 50 DOLLARS. JUST ANOTHER LAZY ARSE IF YOU VALUE YOUR MONEY AND MOUNTS DO NOT USE THIS GUY

I have never heard of a taxidermist that get your mount to you in 90 days. Here in AZ, turnaround time is 9-18 months. If they are doing it in 90 days, usually they aren't sending the hide out to be tanned, they are pickling it themselves. Out of curiosity, how much did you pay?

I realize I am "Monday morning quarterbacking", but never, NEVER pay up front in full for the product/service. I learned that lesson the hard way several years ago myself. Usually, a reputable taxidermist only requires a deposit.

The time frame of 90 days is pretty quick, but not unheard of, but the fact that he required payment in full should have been a "red flag". I suggest that you post this guys name and address everywhere you can and as often as you can so no one else will use him and hopefully he will go out of business.

Sorry about your bad experience, I wish you luck on your next hunt and with your next trophy.

You can get them back earlier than 90 days. High Desert Taxidermy is doing mine. Shane is a awesome Taxidermist. They are located here in Idaho. I took my buck that is being mounted now on November 8th of 2002. I could of had him back within 2 weeks of taking him. But I am also a good friend of his. LOL No Shane and Eddie they bought a tanning machine and do there own tanning on site. So it is not that long to get them back here. Like I said he is a very good taxidermist and does alot of African stuff and alot of stuff around here. I took my horns out today and it will be mounted in a week. I had him entered in a big buck contest and they had my horns till Jan 20th. I also had to get him officially scored for P&Y and got them back today.
Alot of the taxidermists just send there hides and capes away to have them tanned and this is what takes the longest to get done. I had an elk head mounted also from another taxidermist and he only took 3 1/2 months to get him back. He did a awesome job on my elk head but I became friends with Shane so now I use him. He is also doing a 1/2 a bear mount for me due to the bears back was all rubbed out. But he is a awesome taxidermist.

I agree with J.Parker. Most all pro Taxidermists only need a 50% deposit to cover their supplies. Waterfowl or any Migratory birds may be different. It is illegal to sell any Migratory bird mount if the customer doesn't pick it up (unless they are documented as coming from a licensed bird breeder). It is not uncommon to pay 100% down on Migratory birds. Sounds like the guy wasn't too concerned once he had all of your money. You can report his actions (or lack of) to his State Taxidermy Assoc. or the National Taxidermy Assoc. Also, the BBB. Sorry for your hassle. Hope your mount turned out nice. grayghost

I just came across this post and if you cant get along with Ron Scherbarth you must be a hard guy to please. Ive had Ron mount two deer that turned out great. Four of us gave him deer in mid. nov. and picked them up in april with no down payment. He had about eighty deer mounts plus Mt. Lion, Buffalo,Elk,Goats and a few birds to do also. Right now he has two turky to mount for me. As far as award winning take a look at his trophy room with all the awards and mounts it looks like Cabelas.Like they say theres two sides to every story and Id sure like to hear Rons. Just my 2 cents worth from a very SATISFIED customer!
