OK, guys and gals, what is your favorite electronic device and why? (I've set up a poll that is oriented towards camping/hunting/outdoor uses, but...)
Hawkeye, I've got to say my favorite is:
Not on your poll, but a Bionic Ear. It gives me a heads up that something is coming -- long before you'd normally hear it and long before you can see it. Then a digital camera, Waidmanndsheil, Dom.

Yeah, I knew I'd foreget soem stuff like that and not include it. Bionic Ear, huh? Well, how do you like it?
How about the various Electronic Game finders (I think they are infrared devices). Then athere are the electronic hearing protectors as well... Those I'm really curious aobut.

I kinda like my Tasco Pro Point that I have on my Ithaca 16 guage. I like it a lot better than a scope for shotgun hunting for deer.

I've gotta throw in a vote for rangefinders. With archery equipment or frontstuffers (heck, even shotguns), it's nice to be able to range distances when you get into the stand so when the deer comes into view, you have some natural markers to tell you how far away it is. I can't say I've missed too many deer without one, but for shots at the edge of ethical shooting range it is a great asset.

gd357:
I think you hit the nail on the head with your comment about a rangefinder. You use it when you get set up to range objects, not the game when it shows up. That way you know if the deer shows up coming out of a trail that its, say, just under 75 yards away. Use it to set up a range card.

I received a Magellan Meridian Platinum GPS for Father's Day last year, and I use it all the time. I've mapped my property, marked out of town hunting locations & it's real handy when you get lost in the woods ~ or on the road.
A close second, is the Olympus Stylus 400 Digital Camera I bought a couple of months ago. It's compact & weather-resistant ~ perfect to take along on hunting trips!
And last, but not least: I'm building an e-caller ~ MP3 player, hooked up to a wireless-microphone unit. When I'm finished, I can set it out about 100 yds. away, and that will help to keep predator eyes on the prize, instead of my location. I just found the speaker I was looking for, and all I need now is to come up with a weather-proof housing, and I'll be all set!
Since I can connect the MP3 player to my 'puter, I can download different calls all day long ~ without having to purchase different sound cards, like retail e-callers have. Gonna be sweet!

i'm the one vote for cb. i can always get information on it when i'm on the highway.
cell phones are useless as teats on a boar hog. sides that the truckers know more about the road, short cuts, directions, than anybody out there.
