I had a buddy that I duck hunted with who had a GSP. I wondered why the heck he'd get THAT dog for waterfowling, when there are so many other options.
Turns out his girl did just fine on the marshes. In fact, it took to waterfowling like a Labrador, no problems at all. The poor thing sure got mighty cold, though, when the temps dropped and it had to cope with that wet, short hair.
But you couldn't stop the ol' gal from going with my buddy out on the marshes to chase the ducks.
It was a fine dog, even in that application for which the experts probably might recommend another breed.
Real smart, real eager, real friendly, real nice.
Congrats on a very fine, very beautiful animal, GSP!

Alot of people don't know that the short hairs is just as good as any "water dog." Infact alot of the German testing for these dogs involves retrieving ducks in water and if they cant do that they dont pass. I am running my dog in some of these hunt test this summer. I also am in the process of opening a kennel so when I get it up and running I will let you guys know so if you want a fine true German dog you can contact me.
Thanks

I just showed this dog in a conformation show and she won 4 first places including best of opposite sex and best of winners. She is well on her way to making a name for her self. I will be hunt testing her in NAVHDA and other conformation shows this year.

well she got a score of 101 out of 112 on her NAVHDA natural ability test this weekend. I was very proud of her as she did a good job. I also wanted to brag a bit about one of my other shorthairs that got a prize 1 in the NADKC "German testing" last weekend. If you want to know more about the German system and their testing look at the link I have provided. Tell me what you think of the German system, I really like the traditional testing they offer.

The dog pictured in this thread is almost done with her confirmation championship. Take a look at my website at www.vomroyalshorthairs.com . The site is still not all the way done. If you visit it please sign the guest book. Also if you looking for quality German dogs and or American shorthairs let me know. I have both and if I don't have what you want I can get you in touch with some one that does. These dogs are 100% versatile not just a bird dog.

Val if these pups are of the conformation as the ones GSP has you better grab one and take it home. lol
I raised shorthairs in the late 70's and really like the way these dogs look.

Val, I agree with Nulle. These dogs have the class. I like the coloration on mine a liitle better, but I'd almost bet that these dogs are all around better dogs. From what I understand and correct me if I'm Wrong GSPx2, but these are DK dogs, or are some of them out of American lineage?

My DK dogs are samson and sambo. I hunt and test both of those dogs in the German test. Bree is from DK parents. She is registered NAVHDA and AKC. Out of the same litter as Bree there has been 2 that I know of confirmation champions not including her. She should be done with her shows in the next month or two. From the same sire there is another 2 confirmation champions but different mother. So to answer you ? in more detail about DK dogs. Samson and Sambo are registered German DK dogs and test in those systems. Bree's father is one of the highest titled DK dog in the USA. The mother Preformed two of the Dk test but never tested any more in the German system. To have pups registered as DK you have to pass certain DK test. She never tested in those test. I am working on putting some new pictures up and should have them done today
thanks

I will be breeding Bree this spring. I am looking at two DK champions at this time. The pups will be registered NAVHDA and AKC. If anyone is interested send me an email and I can give you the details. The pups will have strong prey drive and water desire. The dogs will have good tracking back ground as well as being great companions

Just thought I would drop an picture of some training I have been doing. The picture is one part of a NADKC test call VGP kind of like a utility test. They have to find a fox drag retrieve the fox over a planted obstacle and bring it to hand with only one command.
