Petey! You think the people that use this site are gun nuts, You must not think much of the customers that use this site, personally I don't like your feelings about your thoughts about your customers. Gun Nuts are what the anti-firearms people think about shooters, collectors and people who enjoy firearms. Are you antigun? or just not very smart. Good Luck I am sure that DR. Ken Howell feels that his book will not be purchased by Nuts!

petey,

Thanks for the "heads up" on what seems to be a scholarly work in the way of books about firearms. I will go the link for Dr. Howell's book after I respond to reload's post.

reload,

I am not offended when someone refers to me as a "gun nut" because there is a light year (or two) of difference between the denotation and conotation of the meaning of the word, "gun nut." The denotation of gun nut is a nut who misuses guns, in my humble opinion. I know no such persons, but like guns and am not offended by petey's application of the term, "gun nut" to my liking of firearms. Maybe we are too overwhelmed by the crush of political correctness and just need to lighten up a bit and be less offended by innocent remarks. Be well.

reload,

Gun nuts is a slang term used frequently by alot of people who are fans of guns. I think you took this way out of context.

Lighten up a little. It would be like someone who claims to be a baseball nut is going to go beat someone to death with a baseball.

:)

Reload,

To refer to yourself as a customer (in my mind) means you purchased something from me, and I haven't seen a check with your name on it. Fact is this is a free service provided be me....and you use it.

The Phrase "Gun Nut" was used instead of "Gun Enthusiast". Same meaning as far as I'm concerned. If you don't like my choice of words, well I suppose that's your opinion. And that's the great thing about my site. I make it so you can voice your opinion so others can see your point of view. But that's all it is.... So go ahead and bash the owner of the site, because he offers this free service to you and is happy to do it so Hunters, Outdoorsman/woman and Gun NUTS can get together and voice opinions.

And Now I'll voice my opinion...

You Just Might Be a Gun Nut . . .
...if you ever had to explain, "It's NOT the same gun,
it's a different VARIANT . . . "
...if you and your new father-in-law go to a gun show
on your wedding day.
...if you have life memberships in more than one
shooting organization.
...if you read that "Brady II" would outlaw possession of more
than 1,000 rounds of ammunition and think, "I have more
than that rolling around loose in the trunk of my car!"
...if watching The Lion King gives you the itch for a
.470 Nitro Express.
...if, while watching the movie Terminator 2, you have to
leave the room in tears and mournful sobs after Arnold
Schwartzenneger throws the CAR-16 off the moving
tractor trailer and it goes bouncing away.
...if you go to three different gun shows within a month
and you're excited every single time.
...if your guns are cleaner than your residence.
...if you have 5 different guns being DROS'd
at 3 different FFL dealers.
...if you plunked down a $130 deposit on a Seecamp
after waiting two years for them to accept your order,
and are still willing to wait another two years for them
to make your pistol.
...if your mom gives you a new Springfield Armory
.308 rifle for Christmas.
...if four local gun shops know you by name.
...if you have your own BATF agent
(mounted any suitable way).
...if you're friends with 90% of the employee's
at all the local gun shops.
...if you identify the gun on the cover of Dillons Blue Press
before you even notice the girl.
...if, when you stop in at the local gun shop, they ask you
questions like: "How was work?" "How are the wife and
kids?" "We're gonna order some food, ya want in?" etc.
...if you have more gunpowder stashed in your home
than your local sporting goods store has on hand.
...if you can wallpaper your house with old issues of
Shotgun News, Gun List, Guns & Ammo, etc.
...if all of your children are life members of the NRA.
...if your children are named "Ogive" and "Meplat."
...if you make $30 per hour at work, but spend 30 minutes
on your knees at the range looking for that last piece
of .40 S&W brass.
...if you have Brownells on speed dial.
...if you trimmed down 100 10mm cases to form .357 Sig brass
before commercial supplies of this brass were available.
...if the custom door lock pulls on your Jeep are .223 Rem
cases and the gear shift knob is a .50 BMG.
...if your girl friend thinks that aura of Hoppes #9
is your favorite after shave.
...if you have guns in your safe that you can't for the life of you
remember how you came by.

:D And that's my opinion

re: reloader.. what you seem to be advocating appears to me to be just another form of 'political correctness', a type of social control popular today which further erodes our liberties. I don't think there is anything pejorative about the term "gun nut", any more than "gun bug" or whatever. The people who frequent forums such as this one have more than a passing interest in this subject, and some term to describe the level of such interst is very acceptable. Perhaps you'd prefer "firearms fanatic" or some such??

I don't mind being called or refered to as a gun nut by anyone.
If you own a gun and you wear a tie and earn six figures or earn four and roll in the dirt, you are labled by the anti's as a gun nut no matter what. ;)

All right, I admit it, i'm a gun nut. But like some of you, i'm also seeking professional help from the likes of Dr. Nosler and Dr. Hogddon . His nurse Miss Primer and the orderly Mr. Brass are always eager to help. Now if Dr. Triggercontrol would get back from the *^$#^&$$ golf game I could get to the range

In the future please refer to this subject as the "GN" word. The "N" word was chastised by the "GN" word for using the "F" word in a public place. See what I mean. No one is offended

Reload, if getting called a 'gun nut' gets you that upset, we need you to go to Anything Goes and under amnesty for illegals and work on solving that problem there....now that should make you upset to the point you can spend your energy and writings to congress to solve this problem....I can on one hand see where you were coming from when the 'nut' word came in with the 'gun' word but believe me we need to spend our energy on things like what Fabs posted in anything goes...amnesty fo rillegals and I think the book would be a handy item to own....

I see nothing wrong with the term gun nut to describe one who enjoys collecting firearms. As can tell by my sign in.

Rev, that reminds me of a dirty word a guy in school that flunked a few years used lots. I asked him what it meant. He said go home and ask my mother. Well dummy me did that. As I was pealing myself off the wall on the other side of the room, I remember her saying to never use that word again. Even now sometimes when I hear the big F word, I duck...lmao..Kids anyhow.

The phrase "GUN NUT" has been around a long time, and it is true that some silly antis may take the name wrong, but who cares. Words like "DOPE BAG" have been taken to mean something else other than it's origenal meaning. It has to do with haveing all the knowledge in regard to long range shooting compitition, as "DOPEING THE WIND" to judge bullet drift for the very long range target shooter.

IMO, Instead of bowing to the antis, when called on these terms, one should explain them to those who do not know, not discontinue them because THEY don't understand!

Political correctness is nothing more than liberal media censorship, that has become the weak spine, and pussification of the American male. I say if you are offended by the way we talk, then the option is clear, skip over what you don't like, it's easy, just use your mouse clicker, or sign off! We have far too many people today, who are so afraid of offending others, that they have become mute for the most part. Son, say it like it is, and let the chips fall where they may, is my advice!
