this is a knife i built out of a mulie horn. i shot the 3x3 2yrs ago in northern BC. i was sick of buying big name knives from stores and them breaking or getting lost so i decided to build a quality knife that really meant something to me. now i have one and can hand it down to my boys. the finger guard was made out of a solid chunk of aluminum. about 5hrs with a round file and fine grit sand papper. i had the sheith put together by a local saddle maker. its the best knife i've ever owned and i think i'll build bonning and skinning knives this winter.

Where did you get the Knife Blade at? And what method did you use to put it together ?

I have a Small Deer Handle Knife, But I like the Blade you put in that knife, I also like the fingerguard. Looks like the Handle would fit a Big Hand too, Thats what I look for in a Knife, Alot of knife's are just to small for big hands. When I gut a Deer I use my Dads old Marble's Knife, Nice thick Handle and a Blade that holds an edge for a long time.

That knife you made has alot of Unique Quality's to it, I really like it.:D Real good job you did on it. I like the Background too.;)

can't remember where i ordered the blade from, but if i find it will post. cost ov blade was 52$us if i remember correctly. very pleased with the quality of this blade.
the guard i hand filed out of a chunk of aluminum.
rigged a jig to set the bone in out of wood so i could use a drill press to get the angle just right for the tang(very important you only get one shot at it).used a counter-sinking bit to pre-drill the burr end for the nut(won't use this methode again cause it's very hard to match the color of the burr with the epoxy fill).

check out the knife i'm building now in "build it yourself".

"and i think i'll build bonning and skinning knives this winter."

I might just be in the market for such a knife myself. Keep me in mind.

my wife mentioned to me that she thought i should think about building a few different ones and sell them. i don't think it is a very plausable idea but you never know. so lets see what others think.

1. what do you think of the one i already built and the one that is in the making?
2.what would you pay for such a knife?

keeping in mind that every thing is hand made except the blade(for now ) might try to fashon my own blades one day.

let me know what you think a knife like this is worth.
i also have a post in "knives" "my new project" with more pics.

i wonder if all the great ones started as just a hobbie!
thanks for the input

I'm impressed with your work and certainly don't want to insult you with a "lowball" offer since I really have no clue as to the amount of work this project entails (although I'm sure it is substantial) As a woodworker myself, I realize that many such projects are much more involved than they appear. I appreciate craftmanship. I'm looking for a large sized bone handle too (to fit my hand)

How 'bout this...... If you decide to make another one similar to this design, (the drop point)...... (figure out your costs) + (how many hours you have invested) figure in what your time is worth (+ shipping costs of course)..... and let me know what you'd like to get out of it.

That way were both more likely to be happy ! :D

I'll pm you an addy to email me directly.

thanks

noticed on my way down to Med Hat that the lopeys are no where near as jumpy as in MT. I pulled over to the shoulder and was less than 50 yards from two nice buck. they looked at me for a sec then went back to eating. Totally calm.

guess I'll have to drive a bit farther north for my next 'lopey hunt !

Sure would like to make a trip back here when I can chase some lopeys and maybe try varmint'n too.

side trip to Banff would be nice too !! LOL

gotta give the local lopey and mulie populations a try...

plus ...found a lake FULL of walleyes (with 12-14 pounders) that will be legal to keep starting next year.

we'll work out a deal.....I need to come up for lopeys and we can hit the water for some 'eyes too !!

It's a lake that the eye were introduced into years ago. Seems the whitefish population has since crashed (cause and effect ??) and the province has been studying the lake for years to see if the whitefish would rebound. Doesnt look likely so the plan is to open the eyes up for legal possession soon (people have been catching and releasing them for years !).

No...I dont pretend to understand the logic behind their actions but I'll sure volunteer to do "my part for the cause" as soon as the season opens on 'em !

Working on some local contacts and access to the SW corner of your province too....where I'm told there are lots of monster mulies.
