small flashlights

I'm looking for a small, bright, waterproof flashlight to carry in my pocket. I want to carry it most of the time and it needs to have a switch to turn it on, not the twist type.

I just got one of the Coast V2 LED LENSER's. It's very bright but not waterproof. It is also somewhat large to carry in your pocket all the time.

Does anyone out there carry a light regularly? What do you carry? Why do you like/dislike it?

I carry a very small light with me all the time. It is attached to my key chain and I got it from Skeet who is a member on this board. He gave it to me last year. I don't know if it is waterproof, but I know it has a button to turn it on and off and it can also be turned on by squeezing it. I think it is made by INOVA or called the INOVA, but don't quote me on that. It is hard to describe its shape, but it is rather flat and uses a watch battery. I am still using the same battery and I have used it several times over the year I have had it.

A company called Underwater Kinetics makes dive lights rangeing from two tripple a to several large square batteries in size. They are all very bright and all waterproof. I would add that I have owned four sizes and the smallest one, the tripple A version, is enough to blind you, but does not have great coverage at more than twenty feet or so. The four C-cell version you could use for spotlighting coons at night it is so danged bright. They only get brighter from there. As per what most dive instructors will tell you if you are going to use it actually underwater stick with Duracell batteries, they have less of a tendancey to explode. If not being used underwater then any decent battery will do IMHO.

I got an LED flash light at Walmart that is like 1/2 inch by 2 inches and about 1/4 thick. It is surprisingly bright and does not run
down easily. LED's (light emiting diodes) use hardly any electricity
I use it as a back up and it got me to the truck when my head
lamp's batteries died.
This thing is really small. It requires that you hold down the
button but I'm sure there are others that fill the bill.

I also got a small LED lite from Wally World and then told my wife to get herself one. It cost $ 9.50 or somethig like that. It has 3 different power levels and on high power the 3 AAA batteries will last for 150 hrs. On low power you`ll get about 400 hrs. of use. It also has a slow and a fast strobe setting on it. Pleanty of lite to make a good walking lite and I did hang it from the cealing of my camper for lite also. Not real bright in the trailer, but you do have enough lite to see with in there.

I carry two. The first, a double A mini-mag with red filter, just for when walking to & from the stand in the dark.

For a small pocket size light that puts a whole lot of daylight out there, that Surefire Z2 is hard to beat. It will light up the woods as if you had a 500,00 candlepower spotlight, but fits in your pocket. If you want a switch for a Surefire, they make them which replace the screw on endcaps too. I do the same as Don.
I carry a Surefire LED, with a 120 lamp. It is enough to temporaraly blind an agressor, and can be used as a "baby baton" (kuboton). I have a little LED on my keychain for normal tasks.


I may get another Surefire for my Glock.

I carry an Arc 1xAAA and wouldn't be without it. Arc is out of business but there are many for sale on Ebay. In the small but larger category, I recently purchased a Pelican M6, 2x123 lithium incandesent. At 74 Lumens it's very bright and, in my opinion, you get more for your money (about $40) than with Surefire (I like my Surefires, too, but it's hard to find an E2E for less than $90 and a new bulb runs close to $20. I am aware of the rubber/plastic Surefires but have no experience with them). Anyway, I got my pelican from Batterystation.com and I can recommend them.

The plastic Surefire works fine.
I prefer the metal one cause I can use it as an impact kubotan. Where the plastic one wold break if I hammerfisted someone;) .

I think Pelican may even make a brighter version than the M6 that uses 3 lithium batteries.

PrincetonTec make very fine waterproof lights.

I got a little Streamlite LED light for Christmas. The model is Stylus.
The light is about the diameter of a pencil (a bit longer) and clips in your pocket. One LED- green- is the light source. Supposedly, green light doesn't destroy your night vision. Seems to be true in limited use so far.
The light takes 3 AAAA (4 A's) batteries- I didn't know there was such a battery.
So far, I like it a lot.

Open up a 9v battery and guess what's in there......yup, AAAA batteries. ;)
