I got this wolf after it crossed the road in front of me and it decided the wrong side of the ridge was a good escape route. It weighed about 90 lbs. At 125 yards on the run I hit it with the first shot, free hand.
Please edit the picture down if it is too big.

You will be happy to know I got him with my Pre 64 Model 70 30.06 featherlight. Believe it or not - it took a couple to stop him. None were great shots, but they were all deadly. Tough animal. As hard to kill as a bear.

Neat looking wolf! Are the black color phases hard to come by up there, or is it a regular occurence? Congrats on a great hunt!

I have shot a couple wolves in the north central part of the province and have noticed a high percentage of blacks

That sure is a pretty animal. I agree with the others, I 'd have a rug or something. Any pix of a moose or did you just get the wolf?

Very nice all 'round. How was the rest of the hunt? Did you see any moose?

But, here it is again. I am not sure what it weighed, but I could not drag a smaller hind quarter on my own in flat country. I suspect the hinds were around 250# and the fronts 300#. He dropped 400 yds from the closest place I could get the truck. Good thing it was mostly flat country. 3 hours of drafgging with my buddy and we were done. A grizzly took over the gut pile some time before the next morning.
My buddy got a small 6 point whitetail to round out the trip.
