Swarovski 10x42 EL's (Problem)

I bought 10x42 Swarovski EL's about three years ago and I really like them, except for one thing....the rubber, objective end, caps keep falling off. (Of course they are hinged so you don't lose them), but, when hunting out west this fall you couldn't keep the dust out because of the caps coming off all the time. I e-mailed Swarovski and they responded that I need to replace the caps. I find this difficult to accept with such a good product. Has anyone else experienced this? If I replace the caps can you suggest some that won't "wear out", as Swarovski says. I don't want the same caps again or in three years I'll have the same problem.

I've got the Swaro 8x56s, same rubber end 'caps' and they are snug and stay on when not in use. I don't see how rubber can wear out, especially after only 3 years . . . I find the rubber 100% better over any plastic types as they are too noisy.

However, personally, I wouldn't buy new ones -- I'd wrap about 2 times around the bino barrels with electrical tape and see how snug they fit. If it needed more, wrap 2 more times around.

Course, that's just how I'd fix it -- I'm not a perfectionist. If you are, you're probably going to have to go thru the hassle of writing Swarovski to get replacements free, or buy new ones. But, I'd be leary of new ones if the one's you got are already so loose. Granted at the price of Swaro's, you shouldn't have to do that, but I don't have any other ideas at the moment, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

I too thought of the electrical tape idea and I may just go to that. If so, I think I'll try to find the non slippery type, green of course. After posting this thread yesterday I gave Swarovski one more chance and wrote them again with a little more "detail". I guess I was thinking of the scope end covers made by Butler Creek or whatever when I asked if anyone else had tried to solve a similar problem. Thanks for your reply though Dom. Where in Mich?

I had some caps that were just alittle to large for the scope I wanted to put them on, but I did not want to put tape on my my scope, so I put it inside the lense cap. :)

Hope Swarovski helps you out Alan, I've never had to go back to them for anything so I don't know of their customer service. Like Catfish said, I also thot of putting the tape inside the caps, but wasn't sure it would stick in them good. Maybe worth a try tho.

Anyway, I grew up in the heart of the Thumb, was a little place called Caro, but every time I go back there for a visit lately, it's more like a city. Good luck with the caps, Dom.

Here is a suggestion try Butler Creek they may work I know I have put them on a pair of my Leica's and they work fine so think about that I hope it helps a little..
