a 25gr bullet brings it down to -3.3 with 250 zero

Well, I can tell you this Evan. 25gr Burger with 22.5gr of RL15 behind it, touched off with a Rem 7 1/2 primer, sighted 1 in high at 100 yards is on a string at 300 yards, so to speak.

Dont know about your ballistic tables, but thats a real world truth.

A 6mm loaded with 55gr Ballistic tips are .7" high at 125yds(the highest it gets) dead on at 200 and 3.8" low at 300. The max point blank range is 367 when zeroed at 316yds. Pretty flat shooting there.

i dont know if i figured it right or not but this is what i got when i scrunged some numbers with remingtons 25gr factory load sighted in 1" high at 100. i have no clue where its zero is at, looks to be just shy of 250yds.

100 yds +1 150yds +2.5 200yd +1 250yds -.8 300 -4.1

thats pretty dang flat for being sited in 1" high at 100. that and remingtons load probly isnt going quite full steam

im actualy wondering about the 17rem now or the 17machIV probly trhe remington because its available in facotry offerings

Rems factories are crap. Plain and simple.

RL 15 and Berger bullets. Rem 7 1/2 Primers

Works monotinously well in almost every 17 Rem

glad to see some have voted, i was afraid to vote because i figured noone was voteing.

its realy just opion poll i guess because you could make quite afew of these calibers shoot very flat to 300yds, it would just depnd on the bullet desing and velocity. i wouldnt say theres a true winner standeing above the otheres.

It is really tough to say which one is the flatter shooting round without putting bullet weights in there. A 130 gr. bullet out of a .300 Wby will shoot flatter than a 130 gr. bullet out of a .300 Win Mag and it will definitely shoot flatter than a 130 gr. bullet out of a .270 Win. Again, we are comparing apples to oranges.

the original poll idea was to find the caliber that shot 3" low at 300yds with zero at 200. there isnt much if any caliber that can do this reagardless of bullet weight.

the 243 will while pushn a 75gr bullet, but it does it with its zero at 250

but i didnt look much into the wildcats and stuff, then reloading also puts spin on how flat something shoots. so basicaly my poll kinda turned out to be all for nothin

According to my Blistic tables there are several that will shoot point blank ( plus or minus 2 1/2 in.) to 300 yrds. The .22-250 and the .220 Swift with 55 grn. bullet will both do abt. 310 trds. The .25-06 with an 87 grn. bullet will do 310. The .264 with a 100 grn. SP will do 300 and the .300 Win. and Weatherby will both do abt. 305 with a 125 grn. bullet. The best you can do with a .243 is abt. 280 and with the 6.5 Rem. is abt. 255. I don`t have the tables on the .204, but it should do alittle better than anything on the market, factory that is.

how does the 30.378 shoot compared to some of the ones yall listed ??

i got one and still have 6 bullets out of the first box hahahaha

when i bought they were 100.00 for 20 rounds

so i stick with my .270

i never could get a tight group ?? with the 30.378 either, it's in the kill zone 4 inch group at 100 yards hahaha

but at 5 bucks a pop on my 30.378, ill stick with my .270 BDL were i can shoot 20 through the bullseye.

The only numbers that will answer this question are tables of "bullet drop" from a perfectly horizontal barrel. The one that drops the least at any given distance is the "flattest shooting". The tables can be found easily. Any other calculations like point blank range etc, have way too many variables in them to be worthwhile.

The tables should also show that, for many different calibers and many different bullet weights, the differences are so small that they will matter only on paper. For many modern cartridges, the differences in trajectory are smaller than anyone can see at 300 yards, without importance in target shooting where one can just make adjustments, and absolutely meaningless in any real hunting situation.

There are far more important things to consider when chosing a cartridge than a few tenths of an inch in drop at 300 yards.
