The Crossbred Duck Mystery?

The other day i shot a duck that looked like a pintail in the air , but when i picked it up , i realized that it didnt look like a pintail.
Instead, it was a widgeon with a 3 in, sprig sticking out of his tail feathers. The fellow i was hunting with said that it was a crossbreed between a widgeon and a pintail. I have never heard of such. I took a picture of him , but they are being developed as we speak. i will put it on here asap. have any of yall heard of a crossbred duck?

I shot a crossbred duck a couple of years ago. It was a cross between a tame duck and a mallard. The duck was huge. It put big mallards to shame and I had no idea what I shot when I pulled the trigger on it. I got it mounted and have pictures of it on the computer, but I'm not going to post them because I am too lazy tonight.

actually ducks are quite permiscuous. they really dont care to a large extent who or what species they choose to father offspring on many occasions. the mallard black duck cross if very common so is the tame duck that fabs killed. the mallard pintail cross is rare but very prized. a mallard/widgeon is called a brewers ducks i believe. so yes it is quite possible you have got yourself a very cool duck

kt's right, I've even been violated by a permiscuous duck but then again, I'm easy! ;)

Fabs, What you probably shot was a Rowan, which is domesticated speices of a Mallard. I don't recall all the genetics involved, but some do obtain flight status even though they might weigh 4 or 5 pounds. Look something like a C-124 in flight. Taste better though. Think our ducks have left high today should hit 7 about 3 PM.

Ive killed a couple crossbreds between a mallard and a black duck. Ive also killed crossbreds between canada geese and domestics we call those muts.

driving home today from a deer hunt after sunset i saw about 300 geese in a field, being the mental case i am i some how noticed one goose in the bunch that was funny, so i went back and looked.
here this goose had all white sides, a real pronounced beak, and no chinstraps! what a freak of nature he was
