Alrighty...where to begin?

Ah yes, I have the opportunity to aquire a S&W Model 29 in .44 mag. This is in trade for my Sako 25.06

I am totally undecided about whether I shoud get this gun or not......I dunno if I will use it enough. I am also unfamiliar with it.......is it good caliber? To high recoil? To expensive to shoot?

Sigh.......comes with a hard case, shoulder holster, and leather hip holster.

All I can say is that they don't make the classic M-29 any more. So whatever that gun is worth today is less than it will be worth tomorrow.

You can't say that about a 10-22 no matter HOW much it's tricked out.

If it were me, I'd already be its owner.

In my part of the country, a decent condition, stock Sako, without scope or rings, goes for 650-700$- and goes quickly.
I'm not so sure you'd get that much for a Smith 29 around here.....

Jack is right of course. a 29 ain't worth what the Sako is.. I just bought one just like it for 300US... But I kinda stole it IMO. Still how about the gun law in Canada on handguns? Rocky is also right. It ain't everyday a nice 29 comes along either.

BTW these things kick a good bit and are not always fun to shoot but you can shoot 44 spec in them and reload to any level you are comfortable with:D So if you are gonna get some to boot on the trade buy it..10/22 can be tricked out anytime.

Man I can`t understand that kind of thinking. :rolleyes: I never really want to get rid of any nice pieces like that. I may trade them off to get something else, but if I didn`t have to I would get the new piece and keep the old one.
Rifles and handguns are 2 different animals, and shotguns are a 3rd. I know alot of people that love 1 or the other and won`t consider get eather of the others. If you`ve never fired a .44 mag. befor I would recomand that you ask to fire the gun befor you trade for it. After you fire it you will know if you want to make the trade or not.

Better 'splain a few things I guess :D

Don't want people getting the wrong impression ya know! ;)

The main 2 reasons I want to sell my Sako 25.06
1. Hasn't fired a round in over 2 years.(I want sumthin' I am gonna use!)
2. Is a right handed bolt action rifle(I am a left handed person!)

That makes it awkward to shoot, especially when I can get a Lever action, or falling block single shot(Which is what I want!!)

My asking price on the Sako is $800

Rough look around here put the Model 29 at about $650ish.

He is also throwing in the Hard sided case, shoulder holster, leather hip holster, dies, brass, and around 1000 rounds of loaded ammo. (I think this is what he said he had for loaded ammo)

This is also for a friend, he really wants a 25.06(BADLY!!)but cant afford to rake over any cash :(

I am also very poor :D And the only way I could afford to build up my 10/22 is if I sell something to finance it :D I don't foresee myself hunting anything bigger than gopher for the next 5 or so years anyways. And even if I did, my wife has a lovely .270, and my bro in law a has a few guns he has said he would happily lend me :D I am also primarily a varmint hunter(Coyotes!!!)so want something that is a bit better suited to them types of critters. (.222, .223, .22-250, .220 swift....you get the pic :D )


The handgun is more going to be used for future bartering anyways :D

I don't have much use for it......I think a fellow I know might buy the 29 from me, and that would be perfect for all involved!!

I have a S&W 29 in .44mag and it's fun to shoot. It doesn't kick much but I also have my barrel ported with 6 holes, 3 on each side. This handgun is very accurate and kind of expessive to shoot if you bought factory ammo for it. Cost me $20 for 20 rounds of Winchester surpremes I believe they were. I just need some dies and I'll be set for reloading it.

I can't give any info on the Sako though.

Around here, if a M29 is going for $650 it better have been used by Dirty Harry. I think mine was around $350 and it was in great shape. Absolutley love the pistol. If you have a hard time meeting people and striking up conversations, get a M29 and take it to the range. People love to come over and talk about it and drool over it. You'll hear all kind of stories about them too. Someone knew someone's brother's cousin who had one and broke their wrist firing it. Someone shot clean through an engine block with one etc. On the all time classics list with the Colt SAA, the 1911 and others. Can ya tell I like mine?:D

Well y'all I just did an exchange rate of 70 cents Cn for a US dollar and the difference comes out at 460. The guns you were looking at were all older more collectible guns with S serials and 29-2 models Which do bring a bit more but still 650 Cn is still a right good bit...BTW do y'all have a VAT up there?? or some such thing. I think Icequeen told me that you have a pretty hefty tax on stuff up there. BTW also...is the ammo reloads?? I'm particular I know...but I don't shoot others reloads.. Just me I guess. What do you have to do to get a handgun license up there?? Or is this'un undercover??? ...er maybe I shouldn't of asked that.:eek:

Skeet.. I can answer a couple of the questions for you..

For private sales, there is no tax (PST or GST) (unless we are talking a car)

As for getting a handgun licence... fairly easy actually... take a simple test, and apply for a restricted PAL. However, we can not take our handguns anywhere but an approved range, and they must be double locked at all times, and the ammo stored seperatly...

It sucks I know.. I never shoot my XD-40 as much as I would like too..

You have to get a permit to take the gun anywhere from your house, such as to an approved gun range, or a private gun range on private property.(Tho even at that, it's a "don't ask, don't tell" type of thing...)

Pity... you didn't get it then? I've been wanting to buy one for some time, but never seemed to have the cash when the opportunity presented itself...

BTW "VAT" is a Value-added Tax... same as our GST.


Also to be considered, not as many of these were bought originally in Canada and with the new US laws, odds are very poor for any more used ones being imported of the discontinued stock...:rolleyes:
