Went out sitting at night, got a good shot off on a decent size boar, 30-06, 180 gr Speer Grand Slam home brew. Took the hit and kept on trucking, found it the next morning though, made it a good 70 meters. First blood ~40 meters from spot of shot. Amazing how the layer of fat closes up a 30 cal hole. I always start at the spot where the animal was standing, spent over an hour there, nothing, and I mean looking close on hands and knees. But I was very sure of the shot and didn't give up, the proof was dressed & hung! You really have to have patience -- all my hunting freinds with bloodhounds were tied up on drive hunts, so I toughed it out and it paid off. I wasn't leaving the woods without this one, Waidmannsheil, Dom.
