Well, here I go again. I purchased a Bowen Target Rear Sight for my Ruger Blackhawk.

The factory Ruger rear sight is a very good sight, but has several surfaces facing the shooter when sighting down the barrel. Those surfaces are a mat black finish on the new revolvers but when worn (for 29 years in my case), that mat finish gets some shine to it.

With the shine on all of those surfaces you get several different shades of light and dark on the rear of the sight depending on the light conditions. I didn't notice the looks of the rear sight because I had been shooting over it for about 10 years and was used to it. Anyway I never noticed my groups suffering from the factory sight.

After getting my first Blackhawk about 15 years ago, I came across magazine articles about Bowens Target Rear sight. I came to the point that I decided that was modification that I would make one day for one or both of my Blackhawks.

Well it only took me about 10 years to finally get off of my duff and buy one.

If you look at the Bowen web sight, they now have now have 3 such sights with verious differences. The target sight was the one that I had my heart set on from the begining, so thats what I bought.

The Bowen web page is reached by going to:

www.bowenclassicarms.com

Installation of the sight is straight forward and fits the Ruger frame better and with closer tollerances than the factory sight. The factory sight has 2 springs under the sight and the Bowen sight has only one. The installation instructions are clear and easy to under stand.

The new sight is made of steel, and the factory sight is made of aluminum, wich is subject to ding and scraces. The sight has a flat serrated rear face and a mat black color, it also has a very slight rearward cant from the bottom to the top. There is a 1/8" wide square notch in the flat surface. The click adjustments are possitive and seam to be very presice.

After installing this sight on my .45 Colt Blackhawk with a 4 5/8" barrel, a friend and my self retired to the range to sight in my Blackhawk and his new .45 Colt Stainless Bisley Blackhawk with a 5 1/2" barrel.

The new Bowen sight really help me shoot my groups a little tighter than I would have thought, and the sight picture is even better than I could have hoped for. It is better than the factory sight.

I think this is one improvement that was worth the cost. The Bowen sight is very well made and I do think I'll keep it.

Nuff said.
