Rocky:What do you think of the new
6.8 Rem-SPC? Is it going to be one we will all want or need?
Did I read about a Wildcat like it about twenty years ago?I think someone was useing it to shoot Iron with.

Just thought I would ask

Doubtful you'd want it to hunt with. It falls way short of the .308.

The 6.5 Grendel on the other hand is comparable.

The 6.8spc was designed to fit in the mag of an AR15 and offer better stopping power, downrange energy and less wind drift than the 5.56. In desert warfare it has it's place.

I think it's another "assault weapon" round. In other words, it's of medium or even lower power than battle rifle ammo. If you think the 7.62x39 is a suitable hunting round, then the 6.8 will fill your bill, too.

For some folks, that'll be the case. Not everyone needs something as powerful as a 30-06 or 270. The 30-30 (and similar rounds) still fill a lot of people's needs just fine.

But as a general-purpose, do-all? Nah.

The 6.8 is a blown out, necked down, slightly shortened 30 Rem. Case capacity is reported in the 35 grains of water range. For all effects and purposes, it is the same class as the 6.5 Grendel (a necked up, slightly lengthened 6PPC, which is a blown out, necked down 7.62x39).

The level of power is probably best compared to the 7/30 Waters. The most interesting part of the 6.8 is that Barnes made a 110 gr. TSX for it. That combination makes it, in my mind, perfect for someone looking for a good balance between shootability and effectiveness. For things like southern deer at normal ranges, it should be just peachy fine. JMO, Dutch.

If you want an AR with some punch, olympic arms is chambering the WSSM`s.

I already have the solution: My AR barreled upper chambered
in 6x45. 80-85 gr pills at 2900 fps. No fuss, No muss. Just a
barrel. It really kicks the crap out of those song dogs at 300 yds.
(100 grs at 2650).

Hey IchWarrior, Nothing to show. It looks just like a standard
20" bbl AR. Great little close in deer gun too!
