What is a good entry level scope for .22 silhouettes?

My club is starting up a silhouette competition and I need a scope, but I don't have a lot of spare cash.
Any recommendations?

You will have a blast shooting .22 silhouette! The scope I'm using on my rig will not set you back a lot of coin and is more than adequate for the game. I'd love to have a nice Leupold on my rifle, but finances dictate otherwise. I use a Tasco Varmint 6X24X40 with a mildot reticle. Silhouette shooting doesn't really take place like a lot of hunting shots, meaning the first 10 min. and last 10 min of daylight. It's done during good daylight so you don't have to have highend optics in my opinion.

I like a scope with the mildot reticle rather than adjustable target knobs because I tend to be yakking with the guys and having a good time while shooting and it is easy to forget to make the adjustments or to even make an adjustment twice if you are not paying close attention. Then you are screwed until you can rezero.

Also, I shoot all my targets on 6 power freehand and bench both. I've found that with the scope cranked up on 24X it's impossible to hold still enough to make a shot. 6X is plenty.

That's just my .02 a lot of guys are doing things differently than me and a lot of guys shoot better than me also so just get out there and find what works for you and have a good time! The beauty of .22 silhouette is that is very affordable to shoot. It is a game that places the lions share of importance on shooting skill rather than cost of equipment

Is this a reticle type that has more than one crosshair?

For the chickens at 40yds. I use the center crosshair. Same for the pigs at 60yds. For the turkeys I use the 1st dot down on the turkeys belly. For the rams at 100yds. I use the 2nd dot down at the bottom of the rams belly. If I do my part I get the very satisfying "tink" after each shot.
