Mom Accused Of Delivering Heroin To Son At School

A mother was arrested at a Ferndale school for allegedly delivering a syringe full of heroin to her son.

Sheila Black, 41, of Metamora, was arrested in the parking lot of Ferndale High School on Pinecrest Street Tuesday during the school's lunch hour, according to a report in The Daily Tribune. Police said they set up surveillance of Black after they received a tip that she was planning to give the heroin to her son.

"She took one of the packs of heroin and cooked it up in a spoon and drew the liquid into a syringe so he could take it into a bathroom at school and shoot it up," said Ferndale police Detective George Hartley in the paper's report.

The teen, whose age was not available, lives with his father in Ferndale, the paper reported. Black has been remarried and there is a court order from Lapeer County barring her from having contact with her son, according to police.

Officers were able to arrest Black in front of the school before she was able to give the drugs to her son because she was in violation of the court order, the paper reported.

Hartley said officers searched Black's Ford pickup truck and found a cosmetic bag with 10 packs of heroin and a loaded syringe.

Black told police she talked to her son over the weekend and agreed to obtain heroin after he threatened to harm himself if he did not get the drugs, the paper reported.

Hartley said the son told his mother to drive to Detroit to purchase the heroin, and she complied.

Black was charged Wednesday with possession of less than 50 grams of heroin with intent to deliver, the paper reported. A $5,000 cash bond was issued during the arraignment.

A pretrial report says Black has mental health and substance abuse problems and should be counseled while awaiting the trial, the paper reported. Police said Black has no criminal record.

Black is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 10.

Tell me about it.

What really boils me is the charge

Why is that all she got charged with?
Instead of the obvious like Contributing to the delinquency of a minor, most every school I know of is called a "drug free school zone", it means that any drug charge within that area is at least doubled. There are probably a lot of other charges that I haven’t even considered.

I have a guess why she got a $5000 slap on the wrist. ($5000 so far).
Maybe this is whyA pretrial report says Black has mental health and substance abuse problems and should be counseled while awaiting the trial, the paper reported. Police said Black has no criminal record. I call it "I have a drug problem, so the court must feel pity for me" card. I see it happen all the time :mad. I think she should be accountable for creating a monster. I think the lill monster should be accountable for himself also.

I know there is allot of responsible, good parents on this forum:) . Do you think you would get any slack if any trouble with the law comes up? I bet not, because you are so responsible.

Why do the bad apples get special treatment? When all of the good people are expected to do their job flawlessly?

This got me, too. I didn't think it would take 50 whole grams to make a higher charge, because 50 grams of heroin is a LOT of heroin...I seriously hope this is a felony, and that 50 grams takes it to a higher class felony, and that it doesn't take 50 to make a felony.

I have already gone round and round with the high school with my son.....when he was in 10 th grade...I got a call from the school and the resource officer, which also happened to be a Ft. Lauderdale police officer.......requesting our presence at the school immediately.......well we rush down there and are takin into a room with all the school brass and a couple of police officers....I am thinkin this is bad.....The dean in a very somber voice said..."your son is going to be charged with a hate crime" and my guy and I looked at each other...the police officer said my son was involved in an altercation with another student and picked the other student up and deposited him head first in a trash can....My guy stood up and looked at my son who was sitting in the corner....and asked for his explanation...My son stated the kid had been bothering him for over two weeks...and the kid put his hands on him so he dumped him in the can...my guy asked where a hate crime comes in? Well seems the kid was "gay". I remember lookin at one of the police officers and he could barely keep a straight face...I wont go into the rampage my guy exhibited in that office ....and I had a point when I started this story...but it seems common sense has gone out the window in more than a few areas when it comes to our kids....they wanted to put this kind of record on my kid....when you have parents and kids in the original post who are obviously in crisis...needless to say...by the time we left the school that day...the matter was extinguished....whats the old saying? You gonna be stupid, you better be tough....and the kid who went into the garbage can was stupid.....
