License draw time in many states, who all has an application in and where are you going this fall ?

I'm sitting out 2005 because I coudn't talk any of my buddies into a cow hunt, but have booked a hunt in 2006 and if the drawing goes well I plan on hunting bulls in Wyoming.

Kind of looking into Montana this year. I guess I don't have too much longer to make up my mind.

I think their deadline is the 14th or so of next month.

I have a Turkey Hunt in IL and a bear hunt in QC, Canada already planned.

If I make the Montana deal the wife and kids are coming along... might even invite ol_spark on this one again :D I need another good packer! ha ha ;)

Going to Idaho for the first time. Combo hunt in the Clearwater area. Said he gets 5x5's pretty regularly (what ever that means) and has great whitetails. A hunting buddy from NY been wanting to try this guy for awhile. Price is right for a 5 day and can stay 7 if we need. Just 3 of us in camp that week. I did ask about that big 6x6 across that canyon he see every year. He said I haven't had anybody that can shoot 650+. What a gift I may get. There was reason for that new barrel being ordered!!!
Going the last week of Oct into Nov hoping to catch the whitetail moving and have some snow up top to push the elk down.
Have killed a 6x6 in Wy. Laramie range. Just hard to draw a tag in Wy. That 9985' elev. is tough and I ain't getting younger.
Looking forward to a new place to hunt. Said we should be in that 6k to 8k range.

Sorry for the long reply to your post referencing mine. Been away from the boards for awhile. That '6k to 8k' was meant to be in elevation feet not dollars. Sorry for the confusion. I'm in an accounting position now and just habit when referencing thousands to use the 'k' symbol.
The hunt is in the Clearwater area and to other areas if we need to go elswhere to get animals he tells us.
This combo hunt is actually cheap compared to other elk/deer combos I've seen.
Just got a phone call last night, my newly re-barreled action is ready for pick-up. Finally cooling off alittle here in PA. Want to get that barrel broke in at least. Move to the long range stuff when temp's are more bearable. ( yea, like thats going to happen in July!)
Hope the farmer is ok with 5:30 am shots. Better check first.

Dan, when I draw a tag I keep it in a locked fireproof safe next to the deed for the house. I don't take it out til the truck is loaded for the hunt. Hope it's a great one for you, I'm sure it will be.

NO elk tag this year = got turned down on the extra cow tags in SD also = I give up !

Sorry to hear that Nulle, someone in Pierre must have it in for you and sees your application coming in and tears it up. I like the preference point system better, where you'd work your way up til it's your turn.

Nulle
06-24-2005, 12:24 PM
Well we are supposed to have that "system" in SD but get this = One of my friends put in for the first time and on a cancelation of a tag they "called" him and asked if he wanted the bull tag.
Well he took it and did get a Big bull but what the heck is with THAT !

I almost hate to tell you Nulle, my buddy near Custer got a cow tag the very first year he applied, and so did his wife. They aren't real big hunters and only drove around a lettle bit, never fired a shot.

My brother asked for a CO muzzleloader elk cow tag as second choice, a point as first choice, and didn't get a cow tag. This means we are driving 1400 miles to Deloras CO to try and fill the muzzleloader deer tags we both applied for and did get. If he fills his deer tag, he has thought about bow hunting then for elk, but I think that will be tough with a gun season going on, even if it is only muzzleloaders.

Well I and the Oldest boy both drew late season elk tags. The boys is not until January 3, 2006. Mine starts December 3, 2005 and runs until Jan 15, 2006. It should be interesting I have never hunted in my area and where the boy drew I have taken 3 elk all cows. So I would say that we have at least a 75% chance of both getting an elk this year the boy should be at better than 90% if he can just stay calm and do his part. He will be shooting a .308 with 180 grain homelaods and I will be shooting my 300 Winchester Magnum with 190 grain homeloads. If I can see it and it's inside of 400 yards it's dead. I let you know how we are doing. ;)

Well today was the first day my cow elk hunt and we went up to the area it was snowing early on we glassed for several hours with no luck saw a few good Mule deer but no elk must still be up on top as there just has not been the snow to drive them out of the high country. We need more snow to make them come down out of the high country.

Well, I would've gone this Sept and Oct, but family bills came out of nowhere and I decided that instead of leaving the fam with only $23 for two weeks, I would opt out of my Elk/Black Bear hunt that I was planning this year.

My wife and I actually fought about it. She wanted me to go (she's a good'un). I didn't want to put the fam in a bind for two weeks.

Sometimes doing the right thing really stinks...
