Anyone here set up and reloading for it yet? I think Im going to hunt down myself a Browning A-Bolt Eclipse in .300 WSM...
Cant seem to find a lot of data online about reloading for the WSM... at least something outside of powder mfg. websites.
For the sake of my shoulder Ill throw and OPS INC brake on it... so I can shoot it enough to hate myself for hte all the powder Im burning.:p

Had a Tikka T3 in 300wsm. At first it looked promising for reloading
but the velocities were way off with hand loads. might as well be
shooting a 30-06. The only thing that worked was a 180g load.
Besides, I have sworn off the belted mags for the most part.
All that they do is beat the crap out of you and raise hell with
the dental work. If I need more punch than a 30-06 than I will
grab my 338-06. A buddy of mine says that you HAVE to have
at least a 300 WIN mag for elk. I have 6 elk. 4 with 308 w/ 165g
and 2 with the 338-06 w/220g. He has 2 kills and 2 lost.
IMHO, get rid of the idea and stick with what has worked for close to a hundred years. JMHO.

Hey yote, ask your magnumitis-afflicted friend to explain how elk get killed every year with arrows. ;)
You are perfectly correct. A decent bullet in the right place will put meat on the table - just like it's been doing for centuries.

RL-19 is one good powder for the 300WSM. www.shortmags.org has quite a bit of data for it, just click on downloads.

Barnes Reloading Manual #3 has plenty of information on
the 300 WSM.
I've tried RL-19 in mine: very accurate, but velocities with
165-168 gr. bullets were a little disappointing in my rifle.
70.0 gr. pushes 168 gr. Sierra HPs to 3028 fps. I needed
72.0 gr. to get 165 gr. Nosler Partitions to a comparable
velocity.
I've heard than RamShot Hunter and Big Game are good
powders for this cartridge. I may have to try them later
this Spring!

Tried several powders and loads and some were good enough for hunting, but a reloader recommended MagPro powder to me and it has been unbeatable. Made by Accurate powders specifically for the new short mags. I'm getting 1/2" or better groups out of my .300WSM. 78gr with Federal Gold Match large rifle primers. Here is a link to some reloading info on the short mags. Good luck.
