Officer Wounded During Undercover Drug Bust
NEW YORK (AP) A police officer was in stable condition early Thursday after being stabbed three times in his torso during an undercover drug bust.
The officer, whose name was withheld, was attacked at about 8 p.m. Wednesday inside the lobby of a housing project near Lincoln Center, police said. He was struck twice in the chest and once in the stomach.
Police arrested two teenagers on charges of robbery, assaulting a police officer and criminal sale of a controlled substance, among other charges. One of them was identified as Beljhuly Feliz, 18, of Manhattan; the other suspect, a 13-year-old boy, was not identified because of his age.
“We are reminded, once again, just how dangerous police work can be, especially for our undercover officers,” Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said at a press conference Wednesday.
The officer was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
