Good day folks.

I have been looking at rifles from AI (Accuracy International) at their website:

http://www.sportingservices.co.uk/index.htm?accuracy

I specially like the AW´s (in 308 Win) and was thinking about the difference in the 20” fluted barrels compared to the 26” barrels. What is the main difference in performance? Would the 20” barrel be better in any way?

The shorter one will be a bit lighter, a bit easier to maneuver, and (in the same profile) a bit stiffer.

With the high expansion ratio of the .308, a 26" barrel is actually a bit overlong. One of 22" might be ideal. The difference between a 20 and a 26 would -in theory- be something like 150 fps. Hardly enough to lose sleep over.

Thank´s for the info Rocky Raab.

I´ve just recieved an E-mail from AI in UK and they told me that the short 20” barrel is preferd by most law-enforcement snipers and hunters and would be good out to 600 meters (308W). And the price............... hum! I life in Iceland and if my calculator is not lying then I would have to pay around 6300$ (300 WM) befor shipping and taxes. The basic price is for the rifle with fixed stock, one magazine, Bipod & Butt spacer kit. That’s a bit to much for a student:)
