Why Do I Want Another Gun?

What is this bug that makes me always want yet another gun?

I don't get as much shooting time as I would like, but I have enough of a selection that none of them will ever wear out. In fact, I should be getting rid of some of them.

Still, whenever I have spare cash, the question is always, what should I add to my collection?

It makes no sense. I should be spending on things like vacations, or something like that. What keeps putting guns at the top of my spending list?

Why should you ever eat anything but the essentials that your body requires to live? Why paint the walls where you live? Why buy more than one type of clothing? Why drive anything other than a "plain jane" Econo-box?

Because, You live in a place that many, many people have given their lives to ensure your freedom to choose (pursue) that which makes you happy.

We are so used to all of Our freedoms, that we often forget the sacrifices that have been made to give Us the wide range of freedoms, that we don't even take the time to marvel at anymore.

That your pursuit happens to also be one of the tools of those freedoms, is just good taste on your part.

Would it be better to spend your hard earned money on trivial, or disposable things?

The guns that you buy today, tomorrow, and in the future are (will be), your gift to future generations of freedom loving Americans. Buy them, Teach your kids, grand kids and Friends and relatives the Who, What, and Why of what being a gun owner/American is all about.

Just leave a few for the rest of us! ;)

Hello Denton,

You stated it quite well. I suffer from the exact same affliction. At 68 years old I should be taking cruises and enjoying life, but every year I want my new firearm and go into a real funk if I don't get it. You're not alone. There are a lot of us in the same boat. Best wishes.

You obviously suffer from newshititis. I have a particularly bad case of it myself. You have all the classic symptoms. I suggest imediate shopping trip to cure this malady.

That's like asking why your wife wants so many shoes, or so many nice dresses. There doesn't need to be a reason, you just like variety. People ask me all the time why I want a new handgun for self defense, if I already have one, or a new Deer rifle, since I already got a gun to kill deer with. Well, I ask them why they need more than one shirt to go with a certain pair of pants. Of course, to them "that's different" but they can never explain how. There's nothing wrong with collecting things you like. My mom has a whole house full of antiques, and I'm sure the amount of money spent on them far surpasses what I've spent on guns. There also are some redundant items, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it. That's what she likes.

Oh, and ds is right, too. We all suffer from newshititis.

For me, as a married man, thats about the only thing I get to fondle (besides my wife) without getting into trouble. ;) :D
