The York St Patricks Day Parade was held this past Saturday. The corvette club had about 22 cars there, some of which were carrying people from the local t.v. station. Being the President and having set the whole thing up I got to carry a real sweetheart.;) Like Mel Brooks said "It's good to be the King" or the President in this case.:D Anyway, while we were standing around waiting for the parade to start I look around and see this guy who looks like Govenor Ed Rendell walking towards the cars. When got up to us, sure enough it was the Govenor. Shook his hand and talked with him for a brief minute. Although I didn't vote for him, kinda neat to meet him. Have to admit it was neater to meet the anchorwoman. smittensmittensmitten;)

What Billy D Said!!

I also met three governors of the state of Maryland...on more than one occassion with two... This is a true story of the first time with one.

I worked on the Intl Airport in Maryland in the Fire Dept. After the First Gulf war They were bringing in "American Refugees" from that area. Well for the photo and news opportunities guess who was there...Yup.. The GUV.. William D Shaeffer. The man who not too much earlier had made a statement that the Eastern Shore of Maryland was an Outhouse..... Now you must understand... The Eastern Shore is where I was raised...as were generations of my forbearers since the late 1600's. Well I had my crew there doing their standby duties with the medic teams etc. Course I was in uniform. The guv comes over to me... sticks out his hand and says Hi how are you? I looked at his hand..looked at his face and pointedly turned around and walked away. No hi ..no KMA or anything. Well he came by again about 20 mins later...says hi again..and I ignored him again. Now understand...I was a state employee who was ignoring his ultimate boss. well a few minutes later... one of his security people(Md State Police) comes over and asks why I won't talk to the governor. I asked him if the governor instructed him to ask .. and he said yeah. So I told him, "Well, You go tell the governor I'm from the outhouse part of Md and I didn't appreciate his statement to that effect".. The cop busted out laughing and said OK he'd tell the Gov. The governor got a little red in the face...looked at me a bit... and busted out laughing too. I grinned at him and went on with my duties. Never heard a word about it either. Luckily. Course.... At the time I had enough time to retire anyway and didn't really care. I guess the saying...we're our own worst enemies is really true.

You got my respect.
I admire anyone ballsy enough to take a stance like that and stick to it.

Hello Classicvette63,

I hope you took off your watch and rings first. Sorry, but I lived in Maryland for some years. Strange little state, people like Agnew and Mandel still give me shivers. I found Eastern Shore a delightful place, spent time around Easton and Cambridge. Best
wishes. Oh, did you count your fingers afterward?
