My uncles has a .44 C&B Replica made in the mid 90s, I am not certain of the manufacturer.

He was telling me the other day that he removed it from the box to show it to one of his friends when he noticed that the gold plating on the hammer and cylinder had started to peel and fall off.

The gun has never been fired, and it stays in its original styrofoam packaging. What can be done to stop the gold from falling of the gun? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Rookie_Rover,

I see this is only your third post here and let me say "Welcome to this Forum." I am not an expert on plating and have seen guns with nickel plating peel like an onion skin over time. Perhaps some of our astute posters here can diagnose the problem. I have heard much depends on the bare metal perparation prior to plating, the electrolyte "soup", the electrical current applied and enough time for plating to take hold. I am sure it is discouraging to see plating fall off a prized gun. I hope some more knowledgeable folks can give you a cure.
