Im really proud the shooter took the time to close the scope cap:D

Ive heard it was from a bad batch of stainless steel, with a high sulfer content. I think Tikka? had a similair problem with a barrel or two on their rifles banana peeling .

Ive chatted with a guy who used to work for Barrett a few times, and he has experienced several failures with .50BMGs. He said it felt like a grenade going off, and made him sick from the pressure wave.

Ill bet that left the shooter flinching for a little bit.

I'da made brown, too.

Tell ya what, though. That is the strangest (not to mention HUGEST) muzzle brake I have ever seen. What ARE those weird lumps?

GEEEZUZ!!! A gallon of Kaopectate couldn't cure the Brown generated from that one!!!

Is that a 50BMG? Some of those cases look BIG but some don't. That muzzle concoction is odd too, looks like something that would be on a Barret or Grizzly or somethin'.

Wouldn't you think that would be a plugged barrel type accident given the action appears to be intact still? Maybe a big bug crawled in there!

Man, that must have hurt! :(

I cheked out the link CV potsed, and appearently further down that thread is soemone who heard soemthing abou tthe original accident.

Possibly the barrel flutes were cut to deep and to close to the chamber.

I was wondering if it wasen't a setup, looked to symmectrical, but if it was bad fluting, that would explain it being that way.

Don't say 50BMG:eek: I just bought a Barrett 99. Haven't shot it yet and may not after seeing that picture:( That isn't a Barrett in the pic. Barrett has a different muzzle break. I'll post a pic of my 50BMG soon.
Hey Doc, I'd like to invite you to Reno and let you be the first one to shoot the 50 followed by Rocky and Classic:D What was I thinking. I bought 150 rds at a gun show last weekend. They are HUGE. All my friends want to be there when I touch this baby off.

You figure the three of us can "proof" it for ya, and then maybe you'll try it...right?

Mule,
That AWESOME! I wanna check that thing out. I hear there's some show in Reno soon? Is it "The BIG SHOW?"

Can someone post something on this with a little more infomation? It appears to be several different case sizes near the rifle. It doesn't seem likely that anyone would actually fire two different caliber rounds in a rifle. Best wishes.

Tree Doc: Yup, it's the Big Reno Show - April 8-10. Naturally, I'll be there working my fingers to the bone again.

I won't have time to shoot unless it's on Thursday afternoon after I get my booth set up - but I wouldn't mind hearing about YOUR reactions to it over Saturday evening dinner at the Outback!

Besides, after all this time, I'd finally get to meet you. If muledeer supplies your ammo, I'll buy the first round of refreshment.

Cal, those cases on the left of the picture do look smaller, but thay may have just been dropped there to "stage" the photo. I doubt they were fired in that gun. But I don't know any firm details about the incident.
