I had good success at the gun show. I arrived at 9:00 in the morning, walked on those hard concrete floors all day and made my deals between 5:30 and 6:00 that evening. It was a long, long day and I am still not walking around too good.:( Anyway, here is what I got....

Sako Forester in .243 This a 1970s gun in mint, unfired condition. It has the L579 action with an attractive dark walnut stock with cheek piece. I bought this rifle in .243 because it is a light weight gun so it will work well in the smaller caliber. It is really a beautiful gun.

pre-64 Winchester Model 70 in .270 What a wonderful rifle this is. It is a 1954 in standard grade and has had very few rounds ever go through it. The blue is near perfect and the stock only shows minor handling marks. I have never felt a rifle that feels so right to me. I am really looking forward to shooting this one. It feels really substantial in your hands so I got the larger caliber in this gun. It should make a great deer rifle. I am a happy boy.

Now expect to start seeing me hanging out in the scope section. :)

bill my dad has that win 70 in a 243 and its just a plain ole 243 to me with an old weaver k model scope on it except you can shoot the same factory stuff in it and clean once a year and i swear you just cant miss a crow with it it just seems to always be dead on target - it gives him something to brag on so he doesnt shoot it much - afraid he will miss one day lol - i just dont believe money could buy this gun from him and i sure hope my son ends up with it one day

HeHe, you owe me a beer........glad you feel that way on the ole Winchester! You can actually feel the bolt mesh into place. It will be with you a lifetime.BTW, daughter uses the steel butt plate...no mods.

Try a good one piece mount and a quality scope...like a Leupold. Believe me, this gun deserves it!

Bill Allen, looks like you did a great job shoping at the gun show!

I have both those calibers in the model 70 pre-64 action and it don't get no better than that period............I am a bit predjudice I must admit.LOL;) :D :D

It looks like your set for the varmint season, shooting practice and taking a truck load of deer to boot with that model 70 .270.:)

I do owe you a beer, Dan! ;) You were certainly right about the pre 64s. The more I pick it up and hold it up to my shoulder the more I like it. I can't wait to shoot it. Why a one piece scope mount? I plan to do some research and get some optics worthy of this rifle. Any suggestions, guys? Highball, it sounds like you have some guns I would like to see! I may eventually wind up with a pre 64 in .243 and also .308....the rifle fits me perfectly.

Just my preference, I've always had em on bolts. To me, they are a little stronger. I'll collect that beer next time I'm in Tulsa. You
made a fine choice.....
