I go coon hunting all of the time and i bring my beagle because down here you need a dog to be legal. He doesn't run them too good but then again it doesn't say you need one that's good at it.I'm in louisiana and i was wondering how big those coons in michigan are.

By our standards that's a big one around her they may reach 12 pounds. Boy acoon dog probably couldn't handle one that big.

It's been a while but once in a while we'd get what my dad would call a marsh coon. They'd be so dark you could barely see the stripes even on the tail. Some would wiegh about 25\30 pounds.Ive seen them fight a big hound and hold their own quite well, when cornered.;)

My great grandfather started me out coon huntin' with dogs. The I gradiated to squirrel huntin' without 'em. I miss coon huntin' but nobody here abouts even has dogs anymore. Only coons I ever get to shoot nowadays are them in my hen house. . . .

"when raccoons try to come on the porch, momma just chases them off with the broom"

Actually here in PA i have read it is a dying sport, due to property lines and having dogs running through properties in the dark. Well that was the last i heard of the SE corner of the state.

I aint been coon huntin since my ole Walker died a few years ago. Heart aint in it no more I reckon. Mix that w/ a job, kids and usual life..time plays a big role in it too. Shoot, I caint even find the time to go spring gobbler huntin yet...

But I can honestly say that coon huntin was one of my favorite things to do w/ my Pop and them dogs. I'll never forget the times I had in the woods..

My dad had a Northeast Night Champion dog. He used to do lots of coon hunting up here in Mass but now that everything is so built up around here he has since stopped because there is not enough room to run a dog on coons for fear of it being hit my a car. I myself have only killed one coon while crow hunting he came running right up the hill i was on right at me till he got to about 5 yards and then i shot him because i figured he had rabies if he was comin straight at me in the middle of the day.
