Numrich has Zastava commercial Mauser actions, part number 851010, for $199. They are blued, drilled and tapped, and have a scope-friendly safety. Same item as the Charles Daly actions, but without the Daly name. Anyway, mine came in today.

By extreme good fortune, there was a guy selling a brand new, lightweight, blued Zastava 7x57 barrel on eBay. That came along at $77 plus shipping.

Today, the two are at the gunsmith, getting married. I'm really looking forward to getting this machine together and running.

I have a 7X57mm sporter that I built on a '98 Mauser action using an Adams & Bennett barrel. It shoot very well with 139 gr. Hornady Spire Points ahead of IMR4350. Good luck on your project. All the best...

Denton,
you can't go wrong with a 7 X 57. My custom Ackley is built on a 1914 FM Mauser, with Shilen barrel. Canjar trigger, and Bell and Carlson stock.
Congratulations, and lets hear more when you get it back.

Got the action trued, the trigger adjusted, and the barrel screwed in right.

I ordered a wood stock a few days ago. It will take a few weeks for that to come. I have a synthetic stock that needed just a little work, and started in on it. It didn't take long for me to conclude that a 7x57 in a synthetic stock is like a Corvette with a trailer hitch.... just doesn't go together somehow.

I have three rifles in 7x57, a Ruger #1A, Winchester Mod. 70 Featherweight and a custom Mauser. Accuracy from the two bolt action rifles is superb and the #1 not far behind. With the proper bullet in my handloads, I would not consider myself poorly armed, with possibly the exception of the great bears, and maybe not even for them under the right circumstances. It's kind of like real estate; Placement! Placement! Placement! :D After all, it did make it's reputation in the game fields of Africa with a 173 gr. either full metal jacket or soft nosed bullet at 2250-2300 FPS. The round is a good one as is and an even better one when properly handloaded.

My 7 x 57 is built on a XP-100 action trued to a Douglas Premium special order 7 1/2 (or 7 1/4) twist barrel. Tried several triggers..canjar, TIminey and an electronic but ended up with a very tuned up 700 trigger. Built the gun for Metallic Silhouette with a fiberglass stock and the gun will shoot. Found the first round I put thru it todau..it is dated 1980! And the gun still shoots exceptionally well!
