I take it that almost all the major shotshell manufacturers now produce some type of round with a shot that is equivalent to Hevi-Shot in density. I saw two adds tonight, one from Federal and another from Winchester for turkey rounds and they both advertized two shotshells that are 35% denser than lead. We all know that Remington already had the Hevi-Shot load.
Hopefully, the competition will bring down the price a bit. Granted, it probably won't come down too much, but even a dollar a box would be nice.

Yeah, that would be nice for waterfowlers. I don't use anything but lead for turkeys (3" 2 oz. #5s). It works pretty well, and it's not worth the extra $ for a slightly extended kill range.

If turkeys evolved that lead stopped killing them i could stand the price for turkeys, but when i think of all the empty 25 count shell boxes from this past waterfowl season, Im afraid of just what the $count would be if it was HS i was shooting. But we can be hopeful that either competition brings it down or that these other manufacturers tailor a similar load to waterfowl. I wonder if this new stuff is legal for waterfowl?

I'd love to see the price come down but I don't see it happening soon. As long as we hunters continue to pay the price the manufactures will keep it up at $2 per shell. However if some unknown company makes and sells something as good as HS at about $1 per shell you bet they will drop the price. Standard economics.

Guys I have a real surprise for ya. The price of Hevi shot won't come down any time soon. The cost of the metals involved in the manufacture of Hevi Shot will only have a tendency to raise the cost of it. Heck guys...lead shot is now at 18 dollars a bag for Lawrence(the good stuff). Seriously..I have the new wholesale and retail price lists for shotshells this year...and the prices are up. AA Trap loads just went up another 2 bucks a flat(1/2 case). Wholesale is almost 50 bucks for them. So go to Wally World and stock up on AA's now while their prices are still down(under 5 bucks a box locally...and no tax in Delaware). There is only one maker of Hevi Shot and that is Environ-metal and they sell the stuff to Remington to load. The Federal Rep is sending me a few boxes of their new shells to try out. After I get to shoot them I'll give y'all a report. :D

I bought 10 bags of Remington STS Mag #9 shot last week for $15.25 per. Only because I had talked to the supplier and found out the price was going to $15.75 his price. We are still able to buy direct from him but it's getting higher all the time. Oh well, the way it's going I won't be able to afford the gas to get to the club anyway.

I'm going to start melting my lead and I'm going to buy a lead detector to find some lead out in the fields.
At this rate, I'm not going to be able to shoot, much less hunt, any more.

Well heck guys. I have about a ton and a half of lead etc so I might just get the ole shot maker out and fire it up. Makes good shot even if it is a little tedious to do.:D :D
