Would a recurve bow with a 40 pound draw be adequate for bowfishing?

I think so. When I was in High School I used a 45lb recurve and it worked great. Almost all of your shots will be within 25 to 30 yards, so I don't know why this bow wouldn't work.

I am going to try bow fishin this summer. I was told a light draw (35-45) good for most fish, plus makes it easy on the shooter. I am going to use a 45 lb recurve because its the lightest I have.

I use to use a basic highschool type recurve bow 40 pounds at max to bowfish carp in the flooded fields.
That pse would even do with shooting from the front of a boat where shoots can be longer.

I used a 35lb PSE for years and it worked great.
