I've seen this powder call "410" for loading the 410 gauge shotgun shell. I was wondering if anyone used it and how does it work for you? I'm loading the 410 ga. with win. 296 right now and I get a few bloopers with this powder. If you have used this new "410" powder any comments would be appreciated.

I am using a bit of the 410 powder now. Used a bit late last year and the shells loaded just fine. I also use 296 and have no trouble with that powder either. I do have some friends that load for the 410 using Mec progressive loaders and they all have trouble with the 296. Gets between the bar and the housing for the bar and binds up not allowing the bar to make a full stroke. Ends up not throwing a full charge if any powder at all. That can and does happen with any of the small ball type powders. Used to use Surplus WC830(we called it Magic) and it would mess up the Mec charge bars too. If Dillon only made the SL900 in 410...I would be a happy camper...as it is I use a Spolar loader in 410 and it loads them better than any 410 loader I have ever used..and no messing up with light or nonexistent powder charges. 410 isn't anywhere as bad as 296 and it makes for a really good load in the AA 410 hull. You can even get an actual 1/2 oz of shot in that case with 410 powder. Try it...you'll probably like it:D

Thanks Skeet, I'm using the Mec 600 jr. for the 410 loading. I use the STS hulls with the claybuster wads. I will have one or two loads out of a box to shoot weak. I'm going to try the 410 powder and see how that does.
Some of the guys at the gun club use the 2400 powder and have less problem, but still have one to shoot weak once in a while.

Other choices include Hodgdon's LilGun, which was developed specifically for the 410, and Accurate 4100.
I've never seen 4100, but LilGun has slightly bigger kernels and does feed through all my measures much smoother than 296/110.

I've tried lil gun and 4100. 4100 was a real pain. Small round ball powder that really clogs up shotshell powder measures(bar and bushing). Lil gun is ok. but 410 is an easier powder to use in the 410 by far....larger granules and smaller charge weights which leave more room in the AA case. Cleanest 410 powder so far(none are clean like Solo 1000 in the 12). Also lower pressures than the others by a little bit which is a help if shooting sub gauge tubes. I do however want to try lil gun in my Savage smokeless powder muzzleloader
