Noted on the news that historian Shelby Foote passed away Monday night in Memphis. The PBS Ken Burns series entitled "The Civil War" was largely based on Mr. Foote's three-volume work. A truly fine historian, writer and storyteller.

A GREAT MAN AND A TRUE GENTLEMAN.

HE'S ONE OF THOSE FOLKS YOU COULD LISTEN TO ALL DAY AND NEVER BE BORED. HE WILL BE MISSED AMONG MANKIND.

I WAS TRULY AMAZED WHEN I FOUND OUT HE WROTE ALL HIS MANUSCRIPTS BY HAND WITH A QUILL PEN. NO COMPUTERS FOR HIM, SAID THEY MESSED UP HIS STYLE. SOMETHING THATS WRONG WITH THE WORLD TODAY, STYLE AND CLASS ARE LACKING. THAT GENTLEMAN HAD PLENTY OF BOTH.

WHAT A MAN. HE'S MY KINDA GUY.

GOD BLESS YOU SHELBY.

I'd like to believe he's currently chatting with all the men he wrote about.

A classy gentleman indeed...I've read quite a bit of his stuff..and he was a great storyteller on the documentaries he's done.
The good ones always go...
