The Minnesota legislature has been in special session for some time and failed to pass a budget. As of midnight last night we're officially closed. No State Gov't in place except for law enforcement and essential services. And also, tax collection is still up and running.

They did manage to pass a bill that keeps the state parks open for the 4th of July weekend.

All non-essential workers were sent home, somthing like 6,000 people.

I don't know if I should be mad, embarrassed or amused. I'm a little of each.

The nation's capital ran out of money and had to close the gov't for several days. I actually think it was the federal gov't because my dad, who used to work for the Smithsonian as a federal employee, had several days off without pay that he was complaining about. Good old government for you.

I had to make a run to South Dakota this morning, here's a warning for you. If you have to pee don't plan on using a rest stop in Minnesota, at least along I-90. All the rest stops in the state are closed.
