I recently sent my ruger slabside into ruger because of a ring in the barrel. they informed me it was caused by poor amunition. I have only used remington goldens in this gun. I am wonder if anyone else has had this problem being a friend of mine has four rings in his. I'm also letting you know to check ruger barrels before purchasing a used gun.

MAYBE SOMEBODY SHOULD TELL RUGER, HUH? I HAVE 7 RUGER PISTOLS AND HAVE NEVER HAD PROBLEM. BUT THEY ARE ALL WHEEL GUNS.

i dont understand what you mean by ring do you mean a bulge
the only way i know of getting this is a obstruction in barrel

If you mean bulges instead of rings, it is poor ammo. A bullet is not clearing the barrel and the gun is fired again. The obstruction caused by the stuck bulet causes the bulge when the second bullet strikes it, probably drives the first bullet out of the barrel. Hope that makes sense, see it more often in 22 rifles.

Yes its a ring in the barrel if you look dowm the bore. I have multiple 22 rifles and have never seen this before. I actually thought they may be feeding me a line. They sent me a new gun for 275.00 which I opted for instead of getting my old one back, from what i understand they are not making the mark 2 slab side barrels anymore.

I might be in trouble if I needed a barrel. I have a 30 year old Ruger "Standard". Thats even older than the Mark 1! Thankfully the "old man" still shoots great.

I think he was speaking about Ruger MkII Slabsides, not aftermarket barrels. Ruger still catalogs them:

but for how long is anyone's guess. They may have stopped production and are just selling off old inventory.

Checked mine right before witing this and no rings or bulges in mine but it is not a slabside just a mark II government model . i bought new in 1984. 20 years of firing all kinds of cheap rounds and she is just like she was new. She like remming match round best for accuracy,
