Someone on this forum (I think, maybe) said a couple of years ago that Wyo, Mont, Colo, had an excess of cow elk and that that state was going to have an over the counter cow elk hunt. I think I remember that he hunted (maybe) west central Wyo. Was that for real and what are the chances of it happening again. And what type of firearm would they deam as legal?

Thanks.

Colorado has over-the counter cow elk tags. Theyr'e about $250

Check the DOW website to find out legal weapons.

Thanks for the info. But in this case I am almost positive that it was either Mont or Wyo. If I could find the atlas that I marked the Approx area in I would know for sure. But we seem to have a new road atlas and the old one is gone. I think that the wife updated the road atlas because the old one was like 10-15 yeas old. So much for all of my notes on the page margines.

Pose this question in the H/C elk section and they can give you what you are looking for but if I remember right when I checked it was on a draw type thing.

Yes most of the tags are draw type depending upon points. But according to the person that I have been talking to these are unclaimed cow elk tags. All those big game types do not want or are not interested in them because they do not have big antlers. Which is great for a meat hunter like me. Let em go hunt for their puke and yuck or their Bwhine and Cry antlers. Me although I like antlers and think that they are really good for bragging and showing off I would rather fill my freezer with meat.
