I recently purchased a 7.5 inch Ruger Super Redhawk in .44. I tried a few different rounds and Hornady 240gr XTP (1350 fps)rounds are the most accurate. My question is has anyone had experience with this round and how effective is it for hogs? The second thing is I live in NJ and am looking for a good place to go hog hunting. I would like to stalk if possible and do not want to shoot at fenced in animals. Can you gents recommend a good hog hunt preserve or area and when does the season run?

how effective your Ruger is depends on the hog, and on you :)
Should work just fine. I prefer a rifle, .44 mag or larger for hogs, but if you just have to use a handgun, thats about the low end.
Placement is everything.

the 44 will do fine, watch your distance, i have been using a 45long colt for 5 years. the longest distance was 30 yards. hogs will grow a sheild on there chest and shoulders that can be as thick as 2in. ear hole is best shot.
