Ok guys some of you may know about this, but for those bow hunters that don't........ the Thermacell Mosquito repellent works!!!!!!!! It is a little bugger that has sketter repellent on these mats that are activated by a butane cell that heats them up. you just push the little igniter and set it down on the platform of your stand. and if you are worried about the deer, the Doe I saw did not affect her, sher came within 7 yds before she made my butt:mad: , But that is anouther story;) . I did not have 1 skeeter the whole night (4 hours in the stand) I used NO bug spray to see how well it would work. I got mine at WallMart for 24 bucks. So if you don't have one, get one it is worth the 24 bucks 100 times over.

Note to mods: I am going to post this in bow hunting and deer hunting forums.

Thanks for posting buddy. I have been curious about this prod-duck ( :D ) mysself, but have not had the spare pesos to invest in one not knowing if it would work or not. Guess it goes on the to-buy list

The ultimate skeeter repelant it Sasafras Leaves. Crushe them up and rub all over you skin and put the crushed leaves in your pockets, natural and it work, and you don't have to worry about wearing while hunting cause it is a natural smell

I was told that this gadget does make and audible sound when it's activated, is this true ?
Thinking about purchasing one for spring bear hunt, but if it's not silent, can't use it !

What we use to do when I was a kid to run skeeters was build a small fire and through some mostly dry cow pies on it. . . . skeeters wont come within a mile of that smoke. . . . neither will most females of the human species. . . . .

A friend of mine uses one of these type mosquito repellers (dunno what brand), and he swears by it.
He uses it mostly during spring turkey season, and I know I can't hear the thing running standing right next to him, and he's killed turkeys while wearing it on his turkey vest. That'd make me think that, his, anyway, doesn't make noise.....

Thanks Jack, I'm going to purchase one of these, after a spring bear hunt in Quebec several years ago, I said I wasn't going back untill they got rid of black flies, mosquito, and noseeums, I hope this works, can't bow hunt when sounds like lawnmower going around my head, eh ?

Well, I ordered one of those repellents from Archery experts with 2 packages of refills, will be interested if it works on all those mosquitos, black flies and noseeums while bear hunting in Quebec Canada this Spring(May 26 thru June 3rd) I'll use it and give a rating on it, if it handles all those bugs up there, it will handle anything that the States have to offer in insects:D :)

skeeter beaters...I take offense to them...lol..but I have heard good things about these products..have heard used during bear season and not only no bugs but bears didn't mind either...did you get the small personal kind you can wear or pin to yourself?.or get the larger unit?....how effective would these be?..big enough to handle your area?..I am looking at these smaller units myself...tks..

I bought the portable, it's about the length of a two d-cell flashlight only flatter, they say there's a lantern type, but the one I got fit's in my fanny pack, says to lay flat on stand platform when in use. I might get a chance to use it a couple days of Spring gobbler hunting, before I go bear hunting. I'll let you know what I think of it and how it performs, after the hunts
