It'll do the job, But I'd rather handload a 300 gr pill, instead of the .44's usual 240 gr pill. If ya don't handload, I think someone loads the 300 grainer but I don't recollect who just now. Buffalo Bore possibly.

Had one a long while back. I shot one
deer with it. It was ridiculous. I filled
a Doe tag with it. Hitting a doe with
it was like hitting it with a semi.
Used to be that Remington loaded for it.
I remember that they where flat nose
soft points that I shot.
Should be great for bear. Great gun
but it was very heavy to haul around
the mountains. I traded it in.

Welcome to HuntChat, Bow Bow.
The better factory loading of the 444 used a sturdier 265-gr bullet. It performed MUCH better on game than the 240s. I'm not sure if the current factory stuff uses 265s or 240s, but unless it's the 265, I'd think twice about using it on bear. Deer are probably fine with 240s, but not bear or wild hog IMHO.
Guns in 444 are a bit hard to find, and can be dearly priced - so SOMEBODY must like 'em! Maybe that's enough info right there, huh?

Marlin chambers the .444 in their guide gun rifles. most likely have to order one though.

These are slick rifles and fun to shoot. They will handle.44 mag. cast bullets very well. My recommendation would be to shop the used gun racks. The Marlin website lists the .444 M.S.R.P. at $654.00. I just picked up a mint condition older .444 without the hammer block safety for $325.00. All the best...

I bought one, a Marlin, many years back. After hunting with it for two years, I sold it, and bought a real 'big bore' rifle, a .45-70. I found the .444 to be not much more than a hot loaded .44 mag. the trajectory gave new meaning to 'rainbow'. The bullet is nothing more than a pistol bullet, pushed faster. The ballistic coefficient for the vaunted 265 grain fp is .191, compared to a .45 caliber 500 grain solid's .320
