Along with the reloading presses, I have been given a LOT of old handgun bullets. Most are in original boxes, but some are showing signs of their age. Two boxes of Hornady .45 Cal 250 grain .452 Colt HP are particularly bad. The metal part is dull and dirty, and the lead that shows at the tip has oxidized.
Are these useable? I did try to clean them in my case cleaner, but while the brass cleaned up some, the lead is still white.
This is NOT loaded ammo, but just the bullets.

I have reloaded and shot very old discolored and oxidized bullets with no adverse effects. Use them for practice or hunting. All the best...

As long as the bullets are just discolored and do not have some kind of dirt, abrasive, on them they are fine to shoot. Like Gil said, use some for practice and if you like them take them hunting.

Should be no problem jusding from the old Herters bullets I've loaded. If it bothers you just run them though a case vibrator or even the dishwashing machine....unless the 'little lady' does your dishes.
