Ok I have to go pick it up, BUT I have inherited my granfather's early 1950's model refrigerator that is setting in my Aunt's garage. . . . . Yes it still runs, however it is solid ice and if you defrost it it completely ices over again in less than two days. Anyway I am going to pick it up and try to build a world class smoker/cooker out of it. The reason I say smoker/cooker is because I am not going to be cold smoking the meat. I am going to be throwing raw turkey, briscut, etc in it.

This one has the latching door handle, and a small freezer section in the upper right of the inside of the frige. The lower part of it is solid compressor, etc.

Anyway anybody got any conversion plans, or places where I can buy parts, temp gauges, etc?

Don't know any plans for making a smoker out of it, but.....
If it ices up that fast, the rubber seals around the door are no doubt shot- warm moist air is being pulled into the refrigerator. Where else could all that moisture come from?
So, one step in making it a smoker is gonna be replacing the seals, if you want the door a tight fit.

Yup I planned on that Jack. I think that 60+ years of service most likely have gotten to the seals. The wild thing is that this fridge has never been serviced. It has been sitting in one spot now for over 30 years and still runs. It has never had to be "charged" or had service on it. All told it has been in the family for longer than I have.
