recently found some public land i never knew you could hunt on near the mendocino national forest and i know the coastal areas hold a bunch of wild pigs.
my question is, without dogs what is the best way to hunt them? do they like rainy weather like deer? what type of area am i most likely to spot them and around what time of day is best? thanks.

First off be down wind..no matter what. They have superb noses
They do like rainey weather and from my hunting experience (In texas for pigs)they seem to be out more during the drizzle and nasty weather rather than being bedded down. Though in unpopulated areas that have very little hunting pressure they can be out all day long or any time during the day..
If I remember correctly there are a lot of small mountains/hills near the ocean in Cali. If so then spot/stalk them in those valleys coming from the down wind side. Try not to travel in the deepest part of the valley though. Try and stay up on one side or the other to where you can see a little ways. Get in close and fire- away.
Another way is to glass an area and TRY to pattern the hogs and see where their trails are and set up in range of their travel trails and fire-away..Good luck
Are you using gun or archery??

I have hunted Hog for several years, Here are a frw tips. They loke just after a rain. Ground soft better to feed. Use asent to bting them in. Fish Oil, or a fruit flavor, on the grass will bring them in from a long way. I was Hunting in Germany and I got a 250# Boar to stop just long enough for a shot. His Teeth made a really good trophy.

hogs have no pattern, they are nomads. yes you can hunt them from a stand like deer. you may are maynot have luck, baiting is good if your state allows that. first pressure and they will relocate. good luck
