Austin and Hallecks 320 and 420 Models are now available in 45 caliber with a 1-28 twist. The barrels will be .007 inch grooves with eight lands and grooves. This is great news for those of us who truly love the potential of the .45.

I can't wait to shoot the 45. A&H's 26" barrel is a help for old eyes who don't use scopes and who doesn't admire the hexagon to round barrel that these guns sport. The 45 caliber is likely to be more accurate with the A&H just from a barrel rigidity standpoint, in that the barrel is of equal diameter for both the 45's and 50's and the smaller bore leaves more "meat" for stiffness.

I don't know how the .007 grooves will work with my heavy bullets, nor do I know how they'll behave with the 1-28 twist. My guess is that intermediate weight bullets in the 300 to 400 grain range will work super, and Mark Lynch sent me some that I'm thinking will be the ticket with this barrel, assuming that they'll obturate or swell all the way into the bore properly. I can tell you that a Wad with any bore sized bullet is going to absolutely be necessary to preclude flaming the bullets.

It will be interesting to see how bullets that fully engrave work with this gun too. I am delighted to finally see A&H come out with the 45. The 1-28" twist will certainly be welcome for those that like to shoot heavy sabots, and although A&H doesn't have any listed in their catalog just yet, the White PowerStar's should provide excellent accuracy with this barrel.

Austin and Halleck do have for sure some of the most beautiful stocks imagineable and you can get them in Monte Carlo or straight, or choose from a host of Boyds Laminates with and without Thumbholes. Guns can also be had with Teflon or if you really want to get into the high tech category... go with a Christensen Arms Carbon Fiber.

The triggers on these guns are Merrit Gage "Bold" triggers, which for those of us that shoot these triggers, seem to universally love them. They are adjustable but A&H hotly guards their propriety in voiding all warranty to these if you touch the triggers. However .... the triggers of the A&H's that I have shot so far, all have been typical Bold... nice and crisp.

Three Cheers to Austin and Halleck in my book.

Much Aloha ...

"and who doesn't admire the hexagon to round barrel that these guns sport." Tom, you meant that as a question, right? Or are you saying the new .45s will not have the hexagon to round configuration?
