Hi everyone! Just couldnt resist shooting this backyard woodchuck this afternoon was a 75 yd shot with my Marlin 880SQ using CCI Velocitors one shot kill behind the ear. These velocitors work well for me. Probably cant tell by the pic but this Groundhog was a good 12 pounds. Was getting fat for the winter.:D

Fine shot! Right fine.
I love those Velocitors, too. They seem to have more "smack" to them than other rounds. Good heavy bullet with a good nose design - and more velocity. Can't hardly go wrong with that.

Im jealous. I cant get Velocitors to group worth a crud out of my 10/22. But the power is most definitely noticeable.
Thats a beautiful Marlin too. I should of never gotten rid of mine.

Gregarat, pull a Boresnake through that 10/22 (or otherwise clean it), then shoot a box of Velocitors at cans, charcoal briquettes and stuff. NOW shoot a group or two.
I bet it's much better.

Thanks Rocky and Greg, Greg I put Marlins Laminated stock on my 880SQ and it is a tack driver. I dont clean the barrel though, The accuracy seems to stay there so I wont try to fix something that is not broken if you know what I mean. Roy:D

the velociters are a difrent cat. you may need to scrub out your barrel and start fresh with them to see acuracy from them.

I think I did that when I tested them, but I dunno for sure its been a few years since I tested them? Ill try it again, its worth it.
Pulse I only have the standards sporter barrel. It shoots some types of Federal, and CCI cartridges nicely. Mabe even new lot #'s wont shoot as well. As I said, its been afew years. Think I might just need to do new ammo testing anyway. Why cant ammo makers just make consistant cartrages?
Regardless, it it isnt up to par with Green Mountain, or VQ by any stretch. I only care to have Minit .Of .Squirrel. accuracy.

the bauty of the 22lr is theyre cheap.
and theyre made that way thats the reason for the inconsistency.

I personally think that's sorta a cop-out.
I shot 10m precision air rifle for the NRA when I was a young kid. There is cheap pellets we all know and use. Then there is expensive German mach grade pellets that are held to higher standards. Heck they were even placed individually in styrofoam, like eggs. Sure we measured each pellet to achieve more consistency, but they were far better none the less.
I just cant see why some hunting .22 ammo couldn't be held to the standards of match grade ammo? I would pay the extra buck or two, to know that I'm getting more consistency, with some of my rimfire hunting ammo.
I guess there is no real demand for it. But its not like rimfire ammo could be re-loaded like standard cartridges. I just sometimes think taking game is as important as shooting a high score.
Oh well.. I guess its just my pipe dream. I just gotta get to work on my cleaning/shooting, and work with what I have. Or maybe just buy a better barrel.

Remember, when you make something by the billions, sooner or later, ya gotta buy new raw materials!
Change the powder lot, the bullet alloy lot, the case brass lot, the primier lot, the bullet lube lot - even the loading dies (they DO wear out!) and SOMETHING has to change!
If you find a box of ammo that shoots really well in your gun, do not walk but run back to the store and buy all of that exact same lot number (it's printed on the box flap) that you can afford.
I have two hoarded bricks of ammo for my bolt .22 that will put 'em in the same itsy-bitsy hole every time. They're more than 30 years old now, but if you ever bet money on my shooting ability, I'll drag out a box of that stuff and wipe your eye. No, I don't shoot cans with it!
