Help on waterproof

For some darn reason my Akganak tent leaks like crazy. Never had it set up in the rain since I got it used and when it did it poured in.
Cabela's said to use that Canvak they sell but it says on the info. not to use it on nylon type tents ?
Anybody got any ideas on this as I love the tent but it gets WET lol.

I have no idea whether it is safe on nylon or not. I used Thompsons Waterseal on my canvas gps-small army tent.

Take a look at the lable on a can of Thompsons and see what it says.

Is there a weather fly available for the tent?

I am not sure on the fly but I bet I could make one = hate to go that route

Is the fabric leaking or is it seam leakage?
I've never heard or seen nylon fabric leaking.

My Cabelas Outback, 12X12 tent leaked copiouslyat the seams in deep snow during an Oct elk season a few years ago. I had waterproofed it with "Camp Dry and "Seam Sealer" very well.
I got a beeswax emergency candle out and drug it back & forth along the seams inside and out, worked great!!:D .
No more leaks!
It's not a forever fix, but it works for a season.

A lot of waterproof fabric nylon items- tents, flys, tarps, etc, will leak at the seams unless they are sealed.
The reason they leak at the seams is because the nylon fabric doesn't swell when it gets wet, closing up the needle hole where it was sewn, like the older canvas did.
If you are getting leaks at the seams you need a seam sealer made for NYLON tents, not canvas tents.
A good camping supply/backpacking type store will have what you need. If there's none in your area, try www.campmor.com
BTW, if the tent in question has a waterproof floor, check that floor for seams, too, and seal them.

well I am gunna stick my nose in here and say, if you want something that will MOST LIKELY seal that tent up for a long while. Seems or fabric leaks, use Mink oil. It takes some time and effort to do a whole tent but I have used Mink oil on a few things to waterproof it and it works great.

if u do have some heart for the water-proof spray that cabala's sugested 4 u then try this. if u have a piece of some really thin nylon fabric that you are not using. then get a small bottle of the water-proof spray and spray it down good. after a day inspect it it for any difference then what it looked like before(best results if u have a digital camera take a pic of before and after the spray). after the inspection pour water over it gently and see if it leaks, if it leaks the stuff doeasn't work but if it holds the water then you have the winner!

Kurt! Just go to Campbell's supply here in town and get yourself a bottle of Tear Grease, it's the most awesome stuff in the world! Just brush it on your seams inside and out and you'll never have to worry about it again. Looks and acts like elmer's glue, but drys clear. It'll do the trick!

Get a rain fly.
If the fly stops the rain before it gets to the seams then they can't leak.
