I found this picture this morning and it brought a tear to my eye. Just thought I'd share it with like-minded folks.

As they say "A picture is worth a thousand words" and in this case maybe more.
God Bless you young and old !

Tater,
There is actually a story that goes along with that photo, but I cannot remember it to save my life. The young man had been severely wounded in combat and I think he lost his left arm and a couple of fingers off of his right hand. I forget what the story was about the older man.

Now that you mention it, I seem to remember something like that, too. I knew it looked familiar but I couldn't figure out why.

a beautiful tribute to the upcoming veterans day. they, the enemy, may break our bodies but they will never break our spirit or our bonds with our comrades.

I just got back from a family visit to New Jersey.
When I flew into Philly and the plane was at the gate, I happened to turn around. The guy in the seat right behind me was wearing the neck ribbon of the Medal of Honor.
My jaw dropped, and I whipped him the crispest salute I could muster. Somehow, despite the lump in my throat, I managed to say "Thank you, Sir."
He nodded back and said, "Thank you. But I'm not an officer, just a Marine."
I said, "Rank isn't in it. You rate a 'Sir' from everybody, everywhere, always."
(In my estimation, so do former POWs)

I couldn't agree more!! I wish more people felt that way. It was the greatest honor to have complete strangers thank me,shake my hand, and share their old stories with me when I was trucking through airport after airport in my uniform. That's when I was still on active duty. Aways remember there's no former Marines once a Marine always a Marine. Sempi Fi to all my brothers some still and uniform and serving proudly some serving at home. All of us still very proud!
