frozen breech plug

The breech plug on my NEF sidekick is locked in, won't budge. I got carried away at the range and fired too many shots with my triple 7. I've poored hot water on both ends, T/C cleaner, and anything else I could find but the damn thing won't move. Any ideas?

Handgunner, i hope you greased the threads when you put the plug in the last time you cleaned it. You might try to Plug the flash hole and pour penetrating oil down the barrel and let it set over night. Is it a hex nut like the knight disk? I have gotten those out using an impact wrench. Nope, didn't grease it. It came out tonight. Guess it just needed to soak and cool down. I didn't think it would ever break loose. I banged it around so bad I'll have to sight in the scope again.

I guess that's one way to learn the hard way :D ha ha. Even with Tripple Seven that isn't too corosive, NEVER put your breech plug in without grease. (or you'll have what you had just happen)

Heck even when I bought my brand new inline, the first thing I did was take the breech plug out and grease it more than the factory had it before the first shot.

(I've had the pleasure of helping someone who didn't grease his breech plug once).... That experience was enough to make sure I put a little extra on each time I clean my gun!!

I'd make it a habit of greasing the plug on every cleaning. :D If you didn't on this go around after you got it out and cleaned it, I'd take the time to take the plug back out and grease it before you resight in, otherwise you'll be in the same boat again.

I banged it up so bad getting that plug out, I don't trust it. I'll have to sight it in again. Tough though, tomorrow is opening day for ML in NH. I got the afternoon off and can't make it to the range in the am.

I got the plug out of my cousins once and told him after cleaning make sure he uses 'neversieze' or how ever ya spell it..the mechanics aid.....well he did and I bought the gun off him last month...plug stuck again but after getting it out found out he only put it on the threads but it was locked on the seat on the bottom...so I would make sure you get some there too...any part that touches another metal....

Using an anti-sieze is a must in my book!
I have never had a breech plug even hard to get out using that stuff.

My favorite anti seize is made by CVA. Its called Slick - Breech Plug and Nipple Grease. Before I install the breech plug, I am sure I cover every single part of the thread with a good coating of the stuff. It's easier to wipe it off now then to fight a stuck plug later. Also when on the range, every seven to ten shots, take your breech plug wrench and just give that plug a twist back and fourth. No need to take it out. All you're doing is making sure it is not seizing up anywhere. This is especially true when shooting Triple Se7en for some reason.

If your using the breech plug tape, after wrapping the plug, I still like to smear the outside of the tape with some anti seize and then install the plug.

Never crank that plug hard into place. Finger tight is plenty, and then I even turn it back just a little. It will tighten up enough on its own.

Of course I learned all of this the hard way with my Black Diamond XR. That rifle will seize a plug faster then any rifle I shoot...
