2506 come to life with 100gr nolser bts

man do i love this rifle.

just yesterday i got a batch of loads brewd for hunting this weekend.

took her out today well and yesterday to.

did some hiking in the lower foothills and came across some does and alittle forked horned buck. definatly no shooters but that gives me hope for tommmorrow

anyways the load was tested on a coyote at about 150yds. well within range for most all loads fired from a larger centerfire to blow the coyote aprt.

coyote was broad side looking at me. i was laying over bipods with a bead on his internals. this is were i preach about the 100gr balistic tip as dual purpose all around varmit deer getter.

i squeezed off a rd knowing full well i couldnt miss. recoil is so low and i was on 4.5power. that i saw full impact a mushroom cloud of dust on the dogs shoulder i also through the scope saw the dog flop over dead in its track not one single movement.

man i love this rifle. paced down the ridge to just shy of 150. flopped the dog over off the exit side to find that the bullet hand exited leaveing a hole smaller than my pinky. but get this. i could see the blood splatterd for 10yds, kinda cool.

the ruger rifle and 2506 are one heck of pair. also give the bipod and varix III one heck of a thumbs up. ;)

i have so much confidence in the set up. we will see a deer before monday come sunday the little bucks are shooters. sundays the last day to hunt.

For me the 100 BT is the only way to fly...they do a WONDERFUL job on lighter east tx whitetails...hope you do well...

This relates to a reply I made on a more recent post before I saw this one concerning load development problems with my Remington BDL in .25-06. I also have used the Nosler 100gr. Bal. Tip, and the best I've got has been 1.372" (5 at 100yds.). I'm fairly experienced with load develoment and have been using Wilson NS knock out dies. Out of 12 different loads this seems to be about the average. There's no sense in sending it back to Remington. They'll only tell me it's within their accuracy margin.

Those knock-out dies may be your problem. Neck sizing is easier and the benchrest guys love it - but did you know that the vast majority of top longrange competition shooters full-length size their cases every time?

They find that setting the shoulder back a few thousandths each time improves their accuracy. This has been well known for decades, yet it seems that all the general shooting public hears is what the benchrest guys do. If it works in BR it must be the best, right? The dirty little secret in BR case sizing is that top competitors today use a shoulder-bumping die to accomplish the shoulder setback - but how many folks outside the BR community have heard about that?

If I have difficulty getting enough accuracy during load development I will make sure I full-length size the cases, smoking the shoulders so I know I am setting them back very slightly. Try it.

im posting every where i can.

this evening my 2506 and new loads useing 100gr nos bts took my 3 point mule deer. range between 150 and 300yds. 1 shot. deer never stepped from its tracks. just stood for a few seconds then crumbled.

bullet was found on the far side just inside the hide, and retained 65.3grs deer also had one broken rib on the far side.

im quite exscited.

check this, some dude wrote field in stream saying he is going on a big bear hunt, he only owns a 7.62 and a 25-06, the guy from fs told him there is no need for a 270 or bigger that a 25-06 is plenty. I love the caliber but does any one else think this is a stretch?

id do it useing core lokts as minumum tough bullet.

id probly try and get 120 nolser partitions to shoot and might stick with them even i couldnt hold the groups to an inch. or maybe triple shocks. i sure wouldnt use my 100gr balistic tipps.

yes in my opion it would work. but wouldnt be everyones ideal choice in caliber for that size of game.

i guess i could answer that alittle difrently.

if headed to woods to hunt bear id grab either my 270 or 3006 ideal choice would be the 3006.

Been shooting 100gr Btips in a few 25-06s ever since this bullet hit the market. It is all I've used for deer and woodchucks since then.

As for bears, I loaned an old M700 25-06 walnut ADL to a friend's wife about twenty years ago, when they went to Idaho for a spring bear hunt. She killed a 6'6" black bear with it, but all three Nosler Partitions went right through it, guide had to polish it off for her, as it was still on the move. I suggested they use some of my Sierra 117gr spitzer loads, but he insisted on loading up the Partitions instead.

87gr,100gr and 117gr Sierras all were capable of sub-MOA with that particular rifle, but once it got to liking the then-new 100gr Btips, it never saw anything else.
