haven't shot her yet. just cleaned the "new" out of it. i know some may not agree with my choice of glass, but i wanted high quality, lightweight, and since it is strictly a called-in coyote gun i did not feel an ao adj scope was a necessity.

i am amazed how light this gun feels, as it is balanced very very nicely. it is close to 9 lbs fully loaded, ;yet feels like 7.5 lbs to me.

hopefully it is as accurate as some others have been.

is reloading for a ar 223 a problem as far as reliable feeding???

i think youl be glad you got the flat top. i think thats much more practical as varmit rifle than the model with the handle.

i find this rather wierd. when pushing a patch through my bushmaster barrel it seems to get "more loose "all of a sudden right around the midway point of where the barrel changes from really thick to less thick. also when "short stroking" it will not let me back up past this point. has to be something wrong. please advise. let me know what you think, it shoots darn good, but something is not right here, or is it?

as i am pushing thru a patch as normal. it is a constant steady push, then suddenly at the halfway point it is as if the barrel gets larger and it pushes much more easily. it feels as though with out a doubt the barrel gets larger.
okay then. let me know what you thinkg

i keep pushing patches with break free down it to see if i am imagining things. sure enough there seems to be just a slight "something" in the middle of the barrel somewhere that barely "catches" the patch. i don't know .. should i take it back?

That's a perfect called-in coyote gun, Hofts.

I'd call or email the Bushmaster people with your observation about the tight/loose barrel. It may or may not be normal, but they can certainly tell you - AND such a communication is the first step towad warranty work, should it be needed.

bushmaster emailed me back and said that i was feeling the "gas port" and that it would not in any way Affect accuracy. it does shoot well, but boy can i feel that port when i clean the rifle. strange i say,,,maybe not. THEYalso said i could take it back to cabelas , who knows i may feel the gas port on another one as well,, what to do, what to do!!!

As far as any AR type rifle feeding can be a little tricky at times. They get better with use but the guy's that were in the service with them will still double bang the slide knob to make sure the round loaded.

I know many colts that are terrible on denting cases while ejecting cartiridges. two little dents on the ejected cases. Many use the nato 5.56 instead of .223's and they never reload just buy the nato ammo. It is more accurtate for them than .223 ammo. Heavy bullet for the shorter barrels i believe.

Your Bushy might be a bit different with the heavy long barrel than these colt mil-spec varities. I bet it still dents the cases of the shell a bit. After they are dented and if you don't fix them i bet they could cause a jam. Using reloads in an AR is normally not a problem, But reusing those cases for reloading often might be a problem. Someone with a lot more expenance in reloading than I might be able to help out more.

P.S. I am looking at the Stainless varminter myself while you can still get all the goodies. I would say I would get one soon but I think I will just stay with the .222 Model 700 this winter. I got the hots for a browning buckmark rifle and the brownng is overpriced for a 22 rifle built on a pistol frame, But i know it will still end up in the safe.
