Any houndsmen in here?

Here is my walker (Sandy) last spring. She was around 4 months, my lab (Lucy) is about the same age. (Lab thinks she should hunt coon as well, but I wont let her)

Here is Buster, @5 months old. He is a Black & Tan. No papers on him. Got him from the pound when he was @9 weeks old.

I will have to get some current pics here pretty soon. Buster is now a beast, and so is the lab. However, I think the B&T is @4" taller then her.

I havent had them tree anything yet. But both have only been out a handfull of times, and I think they would rather play then hunt at this stage. I am tring to find somebody I can tag along with and run my pups so they can learn from another dog. I feel this greatly speeds the training process up.

I use to raise and train German Shorthair Pointers. Dixie Land Luke was the breed. Much easier to train a GSP then them coon hounds.

Mighty perty hounds there toecatch..ya know..you might wanna check out some of the coon huntin assn's around..particulary the NKC hunts.
They have alot of fun hunts that you can put yer dogs in fer trainin...and..you caint help but make a new friend that'll be happy to let you run yer dogs with theirs.

But dont think that them dogs caint be trained halfway fast without another batch of dogs. Keep in mind...the dogs that they run with (esp. if they run with em alot) will be the reflection of your dogs. Any bad habits, trash runnin and etc...they'll pick that up..and quick. Once those dogs are out of sight and runnin..they'll be hard to control.

My suggestion is to set a live trap fer a coon and buy a rollin cage.
Start out by puttin the coon in it and put it in yer backyard on low cut grass er dirt. Let that coon git riled up in that cage with the dogs buggin him..the cage start rollin, dogs gits excited, you can help by callin and even rollin the cage, fore you know it..you have a mini-chase goin on in yer backyard. Spark the instinct..git their ole huntin blood goin..and it wont be long fore they'll be runnin.
Then comes the fun part of trainin em to hunt right...

It might be more time than you wanna invest..but it will be WELL werth it in the end.
My advise is that iffin you find somebody to pair yer dogs with...be sure those dogs are good..real good..so they can learn how to do it right. Or...you could always send them perty hounds to VA...iffin you decide you dont want em of course ;) :D
