Looking for suggestions here, what do you guys prefer to use To put a Polyurethane finish on a Laminated Wood stock. This stock has never had any finish on it yet. Bought it unfinished. Need someone who has done this to recommend a brand in satin. Thanks Roy:)

Roy, If by unfinished you mean bare wood, I recommend Tru-Oil. If you are going to refinish a stock the most important thing is to take your time. The things that you don't see is what makes a stock look great. Sand until you think you're done and then sand some more. Whisk the stock each time. My thinking is, why make a stock that looks at good as factory when I can make one look a 100 times better. Put 6 or more coats on and you'll be impressed. Be patience. This ain't a weekend project. Let it dry 24hrs between coats. As far as using poly over Tru-Oil, don't waste your time unless you plan on beating your guns to death. Tru-Oil is plenty of protection for normal use.
I have a single shot piece of junk Stevens shotgun I refinished. It looks like a million bucks because of the finish on the stock.

You might also try Pro Oil by Brownells, it is part tung oil and part poly. Gives a great finish that is easy to repair if scratched or damaged.
Just give the project time, fill the pores and sand, coat, sand, coat......

A good question-I find Deft gloss polyurethane (www.deftfinishes.com) to be the best I have used to finish stocks. The gloss is best as you can knock the gloss down with scotch pads to what you want.I find the best way to apply it is an air brush or small touch up spray gun as the spray cans are only good for smaller parts.Remember lighting is critical to spraying finishes and small lights are available in most hard ware stores. Another point is to keep the temperature at 75 degrees + while spraying and curing. It might take a few more coats on laminated wood to get the finish perfect.
Another way to finish this would be to have a car painting shop apply a clear coat to your stock . I do remember a gentleman on www.rimfireCentral.com /forums/ who does great work at very reasonable prices for a clear finish.

Minwax makes a very good spray you can get at any hardware store.

Another vote for Tru oil. Very easy to get a satin finish by rubbing off the top layer with 0000 steel wool.
This one was buffed to a shine, but you can see that it layers well. The stock started as an unfinished Richards Microfit.

I`ve use Mn Wax on acouple of guns. It looks pretty good and hold up excellant in hunting conditions. For a show gun that never goes to the field I use oil, but for hard use your on the right track.
