Has anyone out there done anything with or have first hand knowledge of any 6.5 (.264) short magnum?

If you mean the 6.5-.284, it has been widely used for decades. The 6.5 Remington Magnum is also pretty short, and has been around since the 1960s. Do you mean something like a 6.5 WSM?

Maybe to a newbie you were plain. Until the current crop of beltless "magnums", cartridges like the 7mm Remington Mag and the .338 Winchester Magnum were called "short magnums" to differentiate them from the longer belted cartridges like the .300/.375 H&Hs and the .300 and .378 Weatherby Magnums. Then there are the "ultra short/super short magnums" to contend with? That's why I requested clarification, particularly since there is no such thing as a 6.5 WSM/SAUM/WSSM and this isn't the wildcat forum. Sorry, guess I'm not allowed to ask such an obvious question..... :(
